Helen was sure he would be a good fit – and he was! He immediately made himself at home.

He loves to walk in the New Forest. He was a bit concerned about the prickly bits at first but now he’s happy to go anywhere. He’s made new friends among the other walkers.

He is a cross between a Jack Russell and a Pug, hence he looks like a tiny Boxer. He must also be crossed with a Springbok because he can jump like no other dog we have seen. He bounds down the garden, clearing the raised bed and pond every time. Unfortunately, he was also able to jump onto the table and eat my sandwich when I wasn’t looking.

He can run like the wind. Lucy, our Jack Russell/Staffie cross used to be the fastest terrier we ever met and likes to challenge other dogs to a race. She was a bit shocked when Hugo could easily outpace her. They are about the same age and are now great friends, having noisy tug-of-war sessions together.

He is a real slug-a-bed in the morning. He waits until the last moment to come for his breakfast. Afterwards, when he’s not on guard in the front window, ready to hurl abuse at couriers, he loves to snuggle up to us on the sofa like a very good hot water bottle. When we give him a tickle, he gives happy little noises.

Thank you Helen for giving us such a great character!

progress update: Nov 2023

Hugo and Lucy are starting to play together.
They both enjoy a tug-of-war.
Of course, there is a lot of noise involved.
Luckily, they are both very good natured!
He doesn’t care where he sits…
Thank you for introducing us to such a character
Bob & Lisa

Hugo came into the Rescue and very quickly went his new home :-

Hugo came into a household already occupied by three DAWG dogs, so it was very exciting for him.
