{"id":3987,"date":"2011-04-17T11:36:38","date_gmt":"2011-04-17T10:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sithean.com\/dawgdogs\/?p=3987"},"modified":"2011-04-17T11:37:33","modified_gmt":"2011-04-17T10:37:33","slug":"well-done-kate-and-sandy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sithean.com\/dawgdogs\/well-done-kate-and-sandy\/","title":{"rendered":"Well done Kate and Sandy !!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>This article from the Echo <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bournemouthecho.co.uk\/news\/8967432.Top_dog_Sandy_really_has_got_the_Pet_Factor\/\">http:\/\/www.bournemouthecho.co.uk\/news\/8967432.Top_dog_Sandy_really_has_got_the_Pet_Factor\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bournemouthecho.co.uk\/resources\/images\/1622220\/?type=display\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Top dog Sandy really has got the Pet Factor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">3:00pm Tuesday 12th April 2011<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">By Katie Clark \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">IT\u2019S a waggy dog story with a happy ending&#8230; and no sign of Simon Cowell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sandy, a 14-year-old Collie cross from Tiptoe near Lymington has won The Pet Factor 2011 along with owner Kate Hurcombe for her determination to battle against the odds through various serious illnesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The plucky dog was diagnosed as diabetic at 11-years-old and rehomed when her owner John Dickety, who cared for his ill wife, could no longer cope with Sandy\u2019s need for testing and injections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After taking the dog to Forest Lodge vets in New Milton, John was told they had found a foster family for Sandy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mr Dickety, 80, who was reunited with his former pet at the award ceremony said: \u201cWhen I had dropped her to the vets, I cried all the way home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cSeeing Sandy today is out of this world \u2013 it\u2019s like I\u2019ve won the lottery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sandy has been living with Kate for the past two-and-a-half years and in that time has had pneumonia, pancreatitis, mammary tumours and continues to contend with her diabetes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But despite the illnesses, she still loves playing and going for walks and hankers for attention like a true doggy diva.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Kate, 34, said: \u201cIt was a surprise to win and very exciting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cThe vet contacted me because he knows I\u2019ve fostered other diabetic dogs with the Dorset Animal Workers Group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cIt was only meant to be temporary but by the time she was stabilised she had settled in and I had grown to love her and couldn\u2019t be parted from her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Phil Sketchley, chief executive of the National Office for Animal Health said: \u201cThere was no hesitation from us that Sandy was the winner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cKate has done a fantastic job looking after this dog through a very tough time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">We would all like to congratulate Sandy and Kate, who very kindly hosts the annual DAWGdogs Fun Day Dog Show for us each year.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article from the Echo http:\/\/www.bournemouthecho.co.uk\/news\/8967432.Top_dog_Sandy_really_has_got_the_Pet_Factor\/ Top dog Sandy really has got the Pet Factor 3:00pm Tuesday 12th April 2011 By Katie Clark \u00bb IT\u2019S a waggy dog story with a happy ending&#8230; and no sign of Simon Cowell.
