In August she came to stay at the Rescue with Helen while Kevin and Gaby went on holiday, she has stayed here so she can get used to the company of more dogs.
Now she will allow a lead to be put on her collar.

It is so sad that all of these dogs are once puppies eager to experience the joys of life and have this either beaten out of them or are kept confined in stinking holes of accommodation until they become fearful and snappy.
But why are we be surprised by this when we cannot even treat each other any better as a kindred species.
Since being here at the Rescue I have got her to the point that I can put a muzzle on her and take her to the vet to have a general anesthetic to have her booster brought up to date and her rotten teeth looked at.
It turns out that she had several cracked teeth , a rotten one and that every other one of her teeth has a hole in it. Have any of you reading this had a rotten tooth ? Because if you have you will know the pain she has been in.
Cara has had a full dental and the cracked and rotten tooth taken out.
She now needs to go to a specialist who will fill the others.
This damage has happened because she has was either confined and spent a long time chewing on bars trying to get out OR she was kicked in the mouth and infection set in – never treated this led to cavities in all of her teeth.
We are going to have this remedied and Cara will feel like a new dog.
Already, with only painkiller everyday and a couple of them taken out she is already allowing Helen to stroke her for longer than she has before.

We will not allow Cara to go to a home with young children and please do not phone us about her if you have young children.
She is a working Collie with a strong Collie eye but we would really like a loving home to come forward for her who can give her the time and patience that she needs.
She will not be ready to go until she has had all her treatment and has had time to get over it.

progress update: 30/8/13

Cara continues to do well here at the Rescue.
She is meeting new dogs daily and even though sometimes takes a while to get used to them she is much better than she used to be.
She has now stopped following Jimbo everywhere and likes to run with the other dogs
( Jimbo is pleased with this as he was becoming bored with her attention to him )
She is meeting new people all the time and going up to them to be stroked.
Cara is indeed a lovely dog, a little nervous still due to her abusive past but much better than she was when she first came into the rescue.
Kevin and Gaby her foster parents put a lot of time and effort into her when she was with them and now she is in a dog busy house she is coming on in leaps and bounds with her socialisation.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8106"
