SABBAT

RE-FORMS WITH DREAMWEAVER LINE-UP TO SUPPORT CRADLE OF FILTH

MARTIN:
Yeah, he [DANI] invited me and a friend out to the studio and said, “Hey, let’s do a cover version of For Those Who Died”, and that’s how my whole Sabbat thing started; it was Andy Sneap’s birthday, and he was having a barbecue in his garden, while we were in the studio. We all got steaming drunk, and Dani had got us to agree to put the band back together. By the time we’d all woken up, in the morning with hang overs, he had already called the Cradle management, and we were on the tour. So, we had to find the rest of the band. Andy had some trouble tracking people down, after all those years, you know.

Long-defunct British thrashers SABBAT will reunite to support CRADLE OF FILTH on their upcoming U.K. tour in December. The reunion came about “due to many a conversation with Dani [Filth, CRADLE frontman] and Paul [Allender, COF guitarist] whilst mixing the [new] CRADLE album,” SABBAT guitarist-turned-producer Andy “Undie” Sneap told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. “It was put to us that they’d love to see it happen (Dani still has his stolen copy of ‘Dreamweaver’ [1989] on cassette), and the more we’ve talked about it, it just seemed like opening for CRADLE on these shows would be a great way of getting the five of us together again for a bit of fun. It’s not a long-term thing, [and we don’t have] any delusions about the future — [it’s] just a chance to play some of the old songs and have a blast.”

Says Sneap: “We just have to try and remember the songs, but we’ve had three rehearsals already and it sounds great.”

MARTIN:
I’ve read a few comments on message boards saying that this reunion is us ‘cashing-in’ on the current thrash revival, but I can assure you that this is most certainly not the case. Our sole intention is to get out on the road and have a right good laugh with Cradle Of Filth, and possibly appear at a few of the select metal festivals. We have no intention to carry this on as a long term venture; and even though we’ve already been offered several lucrative record deals for Sabbat, we’ve no plans for recording a new album. Personally I think it would be impossible to recreate the essential ‘vibe’ that made this Sabbat music what it was way back in the 80’s. This is merely intended as a final chance for all the die-hard fans to get to hear these ancient songs played live on-stage. These gigs will most probably be the last shows I ever play live, so it will be nice to have the opportunity to say goodbye to all the many loyal fans who have so kindly supported me in my numerous musical exploits over the last two highly memorable decades.
