Evie needs a home !!

Evie is 7 months old and a Lurcher.
She has arrived into the Rescue and settled in her foster home with Jasper and his people.
On arrival she raced around their garden having stolen Jasper’s toys to play with.
He wasn’t that bothered and watched with some resignation that she was not going to give him much peace…

Helen is often too busy to explain how busy she is!

We usually only rehome within approx. 50 miles of the Bournemouth / Poole area
so that we can ensure the continued well-being of the dogs in our care.
We will only rehome further afield if the homes are exceptional.
We are NOT looking for just ANY home that is offered.
All potential homes will be assessed to try and ensure the best possible home
to cater for the differing needs of each individual dog that we rescue

Sam needs a home !!

So, you have never had a dog, live in a flat with no garden and think it a good idea to have one. Which dog would be the most suitable ?? Oh, of course a very young working Collie from a Welsh farmer !!!
This is how Sam came to live in our area with a couple who then put him in a garage with no windows when they found him too much too handle…….. No wonder he was too much for them having come from a farm where more likely tethered as no interest in herding. Then finding himself in a town with noise, traffic, inside a house with a TV blaring etc etc and terrified of a being on a lead.

Luckily for Sam he was handed over and is now with me. After two days he would let me stroke him but not take the lead off, which he had on for a week, until unclipped from his collar. I still can’t put another lead on him but that will come in time. He is a lovely dog who just needs time and a Collie experienced home. He and Heidi got on straight away and Sam was so pleased to have dog company. She chewed his collar during their rough, young dog play and today I will try to get both a collar and lead on him. I understand why he doesn’t like the feel of it knowing that like other dogs in the past who were tied up or treated roughly he is frightened. He will come on in time and be a confident dog who likes walks . He is very loving and pleased to see the people he has become used to. It only takes a couple of days and he is jumping up to say “Hello “

Heidi

Heidi needs a home !!

Heidi [ GSDx ] has arrived.
A gentle soul who has clearly been socialised with other dogs.
She met Missy first who was quite grumpy and no reaction from her apart from to sensibly back off.
Next she met Pippin who likes to strut his stuff to begin with when meeting new dogs.
Within a 5 mins they were chasing each other up and down the garden.
She does startle easily from a sudden noise accompanied by a human movement which tells me maybe she has been smacked.
She will soon get over this. A really lovely girl and youngish.
Not going to inspect her teeth yet to determine her age as she has enough new experiences on her first day to cope with.
Considering she has only been with us for a couple of hours she is so far taking it all in her stride

Reggie needs a home !!

progress update: 26/08/2021

After an enjoyable wash Reggie settled well in the house, although he was not to sure about walking on the smooth floors.
He is a friendly boy and enjoys attention and food.
He gets excited for his walks and is strong so will need some work on lead walking, however he calms down and is good when meeting other dogs.

Lilly

Lilly needs a home !!

Lilly is a 4 year old Rottweiler cross.
She is a highly intelligent dog, who needs a special home with an experienced, sensible owner; ideally someone who has an active outdoor life and needs a dog to accompany them.
She might also be suitable for scent work as she is not large, and learns fast.

She was very worried about getting into a car, but now with patience and perseverance, she travels quite happily.
She was also extremely unsure about walking on a lead, and would suddenly stop and refuse to move, so it took time for her to appreciate that a walk was a “good thing”!
Her training will be ongoing as she knew very little when she came to us and has obviously suffered setbacks being moved around.
She is very affectionate and loves a fuss, but gets very excited with toys and balls, so play is limited and training games are best.
And she has occasional mood swings which maybe to do with her previous life.

She walks with our other dogs and is fine, but can react to strange dogs if they push into her, especially if they bark at her.

Lilly settles well at night and has not been upset by fireworks.
She came to us from the pound and we have had her about a year.
Lilly has been homed twice and returned twice – different reasons both times.
We always make it clear to adopters that there is no substitute for professional help and sometimes an experienced eye can pick up something quite simple – we also give out a list of dog trainers and behaviourists who we know are thorough. Sadly this advice was not acted on.
We can only say that Lilly is a delightfully friendly dog – she has never been difficult with any of the staff or volunteers at the sanctuary and even likes the vet.
She can however be stubborn and sometimes needs to be coaxed into the right action. And she needs a home where she won’t be left as she gets upset and can be destructive.
We don’t think she should be homed with another dog as she might be pushy but walks with some of our other dogs quite happily.
We do hope that there is the right person out there for her for will be patient and understanding and take advice if necessary.
We think that she would be best suited to a one or two person adult home.
