Smudge

progress update: 28th Aug

Smudge has earnt himself a permanent home with Jenny who has been fostering him !!

progress update from Jenny : 26th Aug

A week ago I thought what am I doing bringing home a 7 month old puppy.
But Smudge has settled very well.
She is quiet when left for short periods and we’ve had no damage.
She travels well in the car, pulls a bit on the lead – but is excellent with recall when running free.
She likes to greet other dogs but soon returns and enjoys retrieving a ball.
Also enjoys having a swim.

Smudge is an extremely gentle, friendly and loving dog
…..and will make an excellent companion with ongoing training

Smudge is 7 months old and a mixture of allsorts
She gets on with dogs and came from a home with young children.
She is good off the lead but needs more training.
She is also at the age where she likes to test the strength of her teeth on furniture.
She has a friendly and outgoing personality.

Sally, Mungo and Jack

progress update: 26th Aug

Thanks very much to Tamsin for this progress update!

I have some pics of Sally, Mungo and Jack here which are my dogs if you want them for your successful stories page.
In case you dont remember their story because it was 9 years ago, Sally and Mungo were rescued by you with their brothers and sisters and their mum.
They were found in a ditch starving to death. Their mum was a pure boxer and she got rehomed too. They are now 11 years old and still running around after a ball and jumping too.
Jack came and sat on my mums lap when we were at one of your charity dog shows
(Sally and Mungo were still puppies by then) He had gotten away from the person walking around asking people if they wanted to look after him etc.
And he had been weeing up peoples bags and stuff so we had to get him as he curled up in a ball on my mums lap.
You rescued him from Wales too he was found wondering the streets.
Anyway heres the pics Sally has one black eye, Jack is the jack russel and well you can guess Mungo – THE FAT ONE!

Moss and Cara ( a.k.a Fern )

Moss’s progress update: 22nd Aug

Hi Helen

We wanted to send you a little update on how Moss is settling in. He’s
doing really well and getting along with our other two boys, although
they are both shattered as Moss never stops and wants to play
constantly, but they are enjoying all the fun.

Both Chipper and Jake are great with him, they tolerate his constant
energy and always give in and play when Moss wants to. We’ve had a few
accidents on the carpet but today he did really well and did most of
his toilets outside which is great. He’s a lively lovely boy and a
great new friend to Jake and Chipper who can’t wait for him to be over
his kennel cough so he can have his injection and come to play up the
park.

Rich and I are really pleased that he’s part of our family.

I’ve attached some pictures for you, as I’m typing Moss has finally
given in to his tiredness and collapsed on the floor for a well earned
sleep.

Best wishes

Debbie, Rich, Jake, Chipper and Moss

progress update: 19th Aug

Here are some more pics of the pups taken over the weekend by Claire !

progress update: 18th Aug

Just to let you know I’m already settling in and despite missing my little
brother I’ve got a bigger friend to play with!

Lots of Love Cara (aka Fern)

progress update: 17th Aug

Moss and Fern are staying with Claire this weekend who has kindly sent in this update !

I have given them a whole heap of toys to play with but the newspaper and cardboard tubes are still the firm favourite along with any passing shoes.
When Debbie and Rich came to see Moss I knew he would charm them and pull on their heart strings but it seems tugging on their shoelaces is just as effective!

They are very cute at nap time when they snuggle up together but I think Fern is wondering when it will be her turn to be the pillow.
Mark will forward some pics he took on his new toy.

These are a few I took when they were napping in the crate while I reclaimed the kitchen to cook dinner!

progress update: 16th Aug

Moss has found a home with Debbie and Rich and another DAWGdog !!

Fern has also found a potential home and is just awaiting the results of the Homecheck !!

Thank you Gemma and James of Poole Police Station !!!

We would like to say a very big thank you to Gemma and James of Poole Police Station who,

last night whilst driving back to the Station to finish their shift, saw a fox cub hit by a car.

They then followed it into the garden of a house where it had gone to ground under a shed.

Poole Police Station phoned Helen at the Rescue and asked if she could help.

Gemma and James stayed on to assist Helen for two hours after the end of their shift to help to rescue the fox, who sadly had a broken pelvis and had to be put to sleep.

Although it is unfortunate that the fox was too injured to save nevertheless their prompt action and selfless aid saved the poor fox from a long and painful death.

They said that they couldn’t have possibly have gone home and left the fox where it was, they would have felt guilty for the rest of their lives.

We all really appreciate all the effort that they made !

EDDIE WINS RESCUE DOG CATEGORY AT BEAMINSTER DOG SHOW !!

An update at last of Eddie….who is doing very well and is much admired.
I have been letting him off the lead for the past two weeks
and with the fresh cooked liver titbit treats, he comes back
well…from other dogs who he loves to play with, and from the cows
who he has been trying to make friends with but they do their best to
ignore him….
His speed staggers me when running. He is very
friendly both at home and out and is learning quickly when to leave
other dogs alone and return to me.
I am lucky to have a ridge and
fields falling away, close to home…
one photo shows Eddie up on the ridge with West Bay in the background.
Another photo shows him waiting until the command to ‘take it’ for his dinner….he’s great
with this.
But the best photos of all taken today were at the Beaminster dog show,
Eddie entered into the ‘Rescue Dog’ catagory and
chosen and presented with first prize by Martin Clunes…

He is proving a wonderful pet, and now enterering into the terrible
teen years and can be a bit wilful with retrieving and sometimes
chewing anything and everything he can get his paws/mouth on to….
I expected this and no bit deal if a tad frustrating at times…a few
things I’d have rather not had chewed but no matter we really are
getting there.
The cat and he are better and he wants to make friends
but she won’t allow it….
All in all I feel I am lucky to have Eddie
and he is much admired…

Jenny

progress update: 9th July

Hi Helen, just a few photos taken during a brief spell when it wasn’t raining.
Eddie is a sweet thing and follows me around.
He loves a settee!! but obeys ‘down’.
As yet he does not obey ‘come’ but it’s early days and I look forward to being able to trust him off the lead.
He loves the garden and seems to know his way around inside and out.
My cat is living upstairs at the moment and though Eddie is keen to
meet her, he’s a bit too enthusiastic.
She has been very used to my long term other dog who died 5 years ago,
and accepted the brief period I had the Beardie recently with not a backward glance….but
Eddie she hisses and spits so we will need to take our time.
I think she will come to terms with him living here eventually and indeed
hopefully he will dutifully not chase her.
I am going along to a puppy dog class this week without Eddie,
to have a look with a view to starting next week.
I will keep you posted.

Jenny
