Kiki & Henry

Kiki and Henry have now found a home together!!

 

 

Kiki and Henry were both unclaimed strays from a dog pound.
They arrived last November and Kiki was very badly matted and in a poor state.
Both were timid but are now much better especially Henry who is now full of confidence.
In the time they have been here Kiki has become quite dependent on Henry and as they get on so well we are looking for a home for them together.
Kiki is a Cocker-Poo and Henry a Chihuahua/Terrier mix.
Henry is around four-ish and Kiki probably a similiar age.
Both get on well with other dogs and were very good when meeting people during our fundraising before Christmas.

Little Kiki arrived last Sunday from the dog pound.
Very matted and scared to be stroked.
She will be going to the groomers to be de matted as it is too much for me to do.
Even under her paws in between the pads is matted.
She is becoming more brave and will even jump up sometimes to say “Hello ” to me.
Kiki will not be ready to be homed until the New Year.

Sam

Sam has now found a home !!

Sam arrived a week ago as an unclaimed stray.
He is settling in at his foster home and gets on well Yvonne’s dog.
Sam is around five and a Jack Russel size dog, we think a Yorkshire Terrier cross Terrier.
Yesterday he was at Pets at Home with Yvonne helping us with the fundraising and enjoying lots of fuss from the customers there

Harvey

Harvey has now found a home !!

Harvey is a lovely people friendly little dog.
He has a quite determined character which I think is part of the terrier characteristic.
He loves to play with his toys and will interact with you when playing.
Loves to play ball which he will give up.
Harvey does pull on the lead.
He doesn’t get on with other male dogs when out on his walks.
Harvey will need a strong arm when walking him and possibly extra training.

Rocky

Rocky needs a home !!

progress update: 07/08/2022

Today by 8.15am in time to beat the queue, Rocky , Rhian and I were on our way across the ferry.
Both them had a great time and Rocky was impressive in that he didn’t bark in the crate when the engine was off.
He is improving all the time. He was off the lead, met another dog and said “Hello “.
Rocky is very tolerant even when Rhian’s play gets rough and always goes back for more.
It never matters which new dog arrives he is always friendly to them.
A little later Lianne took him out for another short walk and now he is lying on the cool tiles snoring as he sleeps.

Rocky’s Diary for Saturday, 23rd July 2022 (in Rocky’s words).

Last week I had a hectic few days.  Left the Dog Pound on Thursday, arrived at Helen’s that evening then out with one of the volunteers, Sara, on Saturday for the day.  Sara and I had a chat and she explained she wanted to find out about me generally and see if I needed any help with any behaviour issues so she could let Helen know what we need to work on with my self improvement so that I can find my fur-ever home.

I got in and out of her car without much fuss but I wasn’t very happy in the dog cradle on the back of the car so I did bark on and off to express my disagreement with the situation.  When the car was moving it wasn’t so bad but I didn’t like it when the car stopped.  I think I’d prefer being in a crate whilst travelling but I appreciate that may not always be possible so I need to get more comfortable with travelling in the car generally, in case my preferred method of transportation isn’t possible. I’ve been in Helen’s car in the crate a few times since and I travelled better with minimal fuss.

I’m quite a happy chappy when it comes to meeting other dogs and I enjoyed our walk around Canford SANG.  Sara let me off the lead in the enclosed area and I had a bit of a run around.  I’m not overly active and don’t need much running off the lead as I get hot quite quickly and being a Frenchie I struggle a bit with my breathing what with my snout being so flat.  But I had a good time and when Sara called me I was pretty reliable on my recall for which I got some treats.  I like treats!

I’m quite good at reading social interactions with other dogs and I’m particularly patient and gentle with puppies.  On our walk I met a cute five month old Boston terrier and we played and had a fun roll around on the grass.

I was ok with people I met and enjoyed quite a few fusses which were nice.  They thought I was a very good looking dog.  I very much liked my snout being gently stoked as its a bit I just can’t get to myself.  Sara told me the hair on my snout feels like velvet.  Well, I am a dapper little chap so that didn’t surprise me :-).

Walking on the lead is a bit hit and miss at the moment, mainly due to me not being able to stop myself getting overexcited.  I can walk really well most of the time but then I suddenly get very excited and start to pull.  As I’m a bit reactive to overexcitement, Sara walked me on a collar which I didn’t mind at all.  When Sara reminded me to calm down with a small flick of the lead, I did respond quite well. Reckon I need a bit more practice but don’t think it will take much and its not a main area I need to work on.

progress update: 07/08/2022

Rocky is starting to settle down and in the last two days stopped barking in excitement.
All new dogs into the Rescue are welcomed with open paws.
Last week he had the big op.
Everyone at our vets thought he was a super dog and they took photos of him to go with his post here.
I took him across the ferry with Rhian and was most impressed with his recall.
Even when he so desperately wanted to follow Rhian he came to me and walked with alongside me.

Arrived into the Rescue yesterday and immediately made friends with Rhian.
Typical French Bulldog full of life and like a bulldozer at times.
He and Rhian spent several hours chasing each other and playing.
He is still settling in and we are getting to know him.

We usually only rehome within approx. 50 miles of the Bournemouth / Poole area
so that we can ensure the continued well-being of the dogs in our care.
We will only rehome further afield if the homes are exceptional.
We are NOT looking for just ANY home that is offered.
All potential homes will be assessed to try and ensure the best possible home
to cater for the differing needs of each individual dog that we rescue

Larry

Larry has now found a home !!

Larry is around 11 years of age and getting on well with the other dogs here.
He walked in and settled down straight away with them even to the point of letting Pippin steal his dinner.
He was meant to be barking at other dogs when out on a walk which is why he came back but I have not had that trouble with him since being with me.
The first walk out with the others he barked at a friend’s dog twice and after a quick “No ” from me he was fine.
Later on during the walk he passed by a dog with no reaction. He would suit someone who is home all the time as he does like company.
Saying that though he does settle down after the first night and is quiet until 6.30.
I don’t bother to set the alarm now as he does the job for it.
I think at some point in his life he may have been with an older person and used to being a faithful companion.

progress update: 15/06/2022

Hi Helen, Steve asked us to send you some photos of Ted.
He’s doing fabulously, acts like he owns the place.
An excellent big brother for Foxy, loves his walks, does well on his lead has excellent recall.
He goes fishing with Al, the best bivvy dog ever and loves going to the pub !!

 

Teddy has now found a home !!

Teddy is staying permanently with Ann his foster Mum.

We decided he was happy and settled with her.

Bruno

NOW REHOMED

progress update: 06/06/2022

Elaine has sent me an update on Bruno.
He goes running regularly, is very loved and has won a prize in a hotel paws of fame competition!


progress update: 23/2/21

Bruno celebrated his 2nd Birthday last Saturday. He appears to have calmed down and is settling in nicely.
So far, we have only lost ½ bag of crisps and 1 yorkshire pudding off the kitchen counter 😊 He has definitely grown taller and is now at his correct weight (30kg). He is also walking much better on the lead – we no longer used the harness there’s still a little pulling/tugging and we’re using the spray when he lunges for cats which he is beginning to understand. We take him to Toplands Field where he is able to run free and socialise with other dogs, the field is water logged but the pleasure we get from seeing him playing and running free is amazing (he totally ignores us when we’re there!!). Brian takes him running 5-12km 3 times a week and once the weather gets better I will take him too.

He gets let out to play in the garden several times a day where he gets to do his zoomies. Bruno gets bored fairly easily so I need something to perk up his interest. One thing he really enjoys (weirdo), is Amazon cardboard boxes. I fold the box up and shove little treats, bits of carrots, etc and Sellotape it into little compartments and he spends ages ripping the box up to get the treats; like I said weirdo 😊

CHESTER’S STORY

I am just a little lad
My start in life was very bad
My owners – they just didn’t care
If I was – or wasn’t there

Almost every single night
They would argue, they would fight
But you could always guarantee
They’d take their anger out on me

To get away I really tried
But there was nowhere to hide
Very luckily for me
One day they did both agree

They didn’t want me anymore
So I was booted out the door
A nice lady came and took me away
In a dogs home I went to stay

There were many dogs like me
Waiting of a family
Waiting for someone to come
And give them all a happy home

People would come and take one away
I was always the one to stay
The months did turn into a year
And I was feeling safe in there

If interest someone did show
I didn’t really want to know
This was the place I wanted to be
Coz nobody was hurting me

But the dreaded day did come
When someone came to take me home
Oh no – Please do let me stay
My life was put in disarray

Please don’t let it start again
And I am put through all that pain
A shout, a kick and then a slap
Please don’t send me back to that

Part 2

I was given a basket full of toys
Even some that made a noise
They were very, very, very kind
But those early days were on my mind

So I made it very clear
That I didn’t want them near
Day after day after day after day
Behind the curtain I would stay

Another favourite place to be
Was tucked away behind the settee
I know it wasn’t very nice
But I bit my owners more than twice

So I waited for a clout
But they didn’t even shout
Six months went by and then a year
And I began to lose my fear

Every day they talked to me
And the patience that was shown to me
Any fool could clearly see
That no harm would ever come to me

Now they are my bestest friends
And this is where my story ends
At last I know I will always be
Part of a loving family
