Sam

Sam has now found a home !!

progress update: 02/12/2021

Sam has been having visits from a lady who does agility and over the last couple of weeks of daily visits has become friendly with her.
He has improved massively in the last few weeks with me being able to put a lead on and off him without fear.
Even progressing to letting her hold the lead while I walked alongside.
I decided that for him to continue to become more confident it was time for him to move to her house.
Understanding Collies well he has now become her best friend, loves her older Collie and even though still herding her husband has started to realise he is not a threat.
He will take more time to become a really confident dog but is in the best of hands to continue to do so in his new home.
In the future he will be doing Agility .

Sam is coming on well with me but has a long way to go yet. Today we tried walking him with Lianne with me taking the lead at the times when I knew he would need me to.
He did very well in the park with Lianne and with me out of sight, until he met a group of people with their dogs.
He is fearful of some men particularly those in dark clothes, and there were two very nice chaps walking their dogs in this group who were wearing black.
All too much for him and I spent time sitting with him and persuading him to walk on.
Once we got going again after a little while I gave the lead to Lianne again and he calmed down.
He looks for me all the time for reassurance and is reluctant when he knows I am not close by.
I can almost give him a proper hug now without him flinching at his neck area being touched.
One big step forward is that he let Lianne put his lead on.
This doesn’t sound much but it is where Sam is concerned.

progress update: 10/10/2021

It was D Day on Sunday when Sarah and I managed to get both a collar and harness on Sam. He had a couple of days getting used to the feel of it and today went out for his first walk. After a few minutes of chewing at the leads, he quickly found the dog news on the verges and lamp posts of far more interest. Did not react to the cars, a jogger or people walking past. We walked to the Rec and friendly and interested in all the dogs he met. Soon he was pulling on ahead in his excitement at all the new smells . No reaction at all as we walked past the men working on improvements at the Rec or the digger dragging it’s bucket across the pathway. I stood near the main road to see how well he would just wait and for 10 mins he waited patiently. We met a lady and her Chihuahua who greeted calmly . He was a little weary of the lady holding out her hand with a treat but previously to that he gently touched her hand with his nose.

So pleased with him. In the weeks he has been here he has grown in confidence with new people and just loves the dogs that have come and gone to new homes.

So, you have never had a dog, live in a flat with no garden and think it a good idea to have one. Which dog would be the most suitable ?? Oh, of course a very young working Collie from a Welsh farmer !!!
This is how Sam came to live in our area with a couple who then put him in a garage with no windows when they found him too much too handle…….. No wonder he was too much for them having come from a farm where more likely tethered as no interest in herding. Then finding himself in a town with noise, traffic, inside a house with a TV blaring etc etc and terrified of a being on a lead.

Luckily for Sam he was handed over and is now with me. After two days he would let me stroke him but not take the lead off, which he had on for a week, until unclipped from his collar. I still can’t put another lead on him but that will come in time. He is a lovely dog who just needs time and a Collie experienced home. He and Heidi got on straight away and Sam was so pleased to have dog company. She chewed his collar during their rough, young dog play and today I will try to get both a collar and lead on him. I understand why he doesn’t like the feel of it knowing that like other dogs in the past who were tied up or treated roughly he is frightened. He will come on in time and be a confident dog who likes walks . He is very loving and pleased to see the people he has become used to. It only takes a couple of days and he is jumping up to say “Hello “

Mabel & Lucy

Mabel &  Lucy have both now found homes !!

progress update: 2/12/2021

Mabel has gone to foster with Sue where she is happy to snuggle into the armchair with Sue for the night.
Mabel loves nothing more than this of an evening.
She has met Sue’s Grandchildren who she liked and was well mannered.
Mabel is a lovely girl and would love to find a home where she can be the only dog.

progress update: 24/11/2021

We now feel it best that Mabel & Lucy are not rehomed together, so Lucy now has a home, Mabel is still looking for one

progress update: 02/11/2021

Both girls are now nearly clean in the house with just the occasional accident.
They have not been off the lead yet but will be let off in an enclosed area to see how their recall is.
At the moment they are enjoying long walks with Barry, Greta and Lianne.
Getting on well with the other dogs here.
They are still into everything but that is just their characters and Lucy being young is full of of curiousity.
They will need a secure garden as find any little gap to wriggle through or jump onto the bin to let themselves back into my part of the garden if I have left them out to do their business.

progress update: 27/10/2021

These lovely girls have been with us three weeks now and really settled in.
They are full on into everything, tails constantly wagging and full of mischief.
They will need someone who is patient with them as not quite housetrained yet and they do like to investigate the kitchen counters if they can get up onto them.
They are getting on well with the other dogs at the Rescue and loving their long walks to the beach with Barry.

progress update: 10/10/2021

Mabel and Lucy have settled in well and been going out for long walks with Barry. Once around the corner and away from me Mabel walks on without looking back. They are really nice girls with tails constantly wagging.tails. Now nearly clean in the house as long as I notice when they want to go out and let them out regularly. Quiet at night now and settle down for the night easily. Lucy is interested in the sea on her walks with Barry but Mabel is clearly saying to him “No thanks I will give that a miss “.

Arrived today and we are looking for a home for them together.

Mabel is the Mum we believe, and around four to five years old. Lucy 7 months to a year or so.
They both get on really well with other dogs and have been very patient with Sam who likes to play ALL the time.
Still settling in as their first day with us and we will update as we get to know them better.

A few photos of him in his new home and update that came via text:
He is doing amazing, he loves the beach and has been in the water a few times.
Has met lots of dogs, bit of work to be done there.
Bonded with our other dog.

Buzz is a friendly energetic puppy.
He gets on well with other dogs and enjoys a good run and play in a secure area.
He knows a few basic commands and walks well on the lead until he wants to say hello to someone or another dog.
He is clean in the house and is setting well at night but is not quite ready to be left alone in the day.

Nero

Rehomed

progress update: 31/10/2021

progress update: 30/04/2020

Nero settled into our foster home very quickly at just 4 months of age.
He has a very calm, sweet, gentle and polite nature.
Nero is a typical Border Collie, which includes the lovely temperament and is very intelligent.
In just a few weeks he has been a great foster pup who enjoys us all, including our young children. He loves to play with his toys and is also happy to play in his own company and especially loves the garden.
He will thrive with some further training and already knows a few basic words. He is almost toilet trained, so after every meal and drink we still have to put him outside and inevitably he will wee. He still occasionally has a little wee accident, but never a poo!
He loves his walks and is getting quite strong on the lead now. He is typically very interested in everything out and about, especially a fascination with wheels, meeting other dogs and wanting to join in with play. He has the tendency to always want to chase and so is very curious and slightly nervous with noisy cars going by when being walked along the pavement.
He is very sociable, but hasn’t been able to meet too many other dogs on leads during this social distancing time!
He has therefore never been left, so has enjoyed our full time attention, but more recently has found his voice and will bark sometimes if ignored, even though he can see and hear us in the other room, so not far away! He is also quite content in curling up on his own to have a nap!
Nero is used to our routine during the day and sleeps well in his crate during the night, but let’s us know it’s time to get up from about 6.30 every morning!
Nero will thrive on lots of company, stimulation, further training and exercise.
A very special pup :-)

Nero was one of four Collie puppies that arrived just before lockdown.

Sid

Sid has now found a home !!

Sid arrived today and is now in foster with Auntie Pat and her gang of dogs.
He is getting on very well with all of them.
Even Smurfy who can be a bit of a grump sometimes with male dogs likes him.
Sid is around three years old.
More to follow once he has been with us longer.

Tilly

Tilly has now found a home !!

Tilly is a 13 year old wire/long haired Jack Russell who we took on back in August as her owner is at end of life.
She is a sweet girl who is on the look out for food all the time as she’s on a weight loss plan now as a bit round.
Her hearing is selective and has a slight sight problem due to age, but hears when the treat box opens.
She loves her walks but doesn’t like to go too far. We walk her on an extendable lead, but she over does it at the beginning as she thinks she’s still a pup.
She gets on well with my 2 boys, but they are very laid back labradoodles, but hates any dog that gets in her face especially bitches, so I would say she would do best on her own or with a dog that is not confrontational.
She is getting used to petting and doesn’t attempt to get on furniture, laps or climb the stairs.
She leaps out the door now at toilet times, so she is getting lighter.
She is upto date with vaccinations last one August 12th and worming September.
She is microchipped.
We would love to find her a lovely home to live out the rest of her life.

Cara

Cara has now found a home !!

Cara is about 2yrs old, she arrived very dirty and sore but after 2 baths, a trip to the vet and some tlc is settling well.
She is a gentle girl who loves a cuddle.
She gets on well with other dogs and enjoys a good run with them but is also happy having a quiet sniff.

Evie

Evie has now found a home !!

Evie is 7 months old and a Lurcher.
She has arrived into the Rescue and settled in her foster home with Jasper and his people.
On arrival she raced around their garden having stolen Jasper’s toys to play with.
He wasn’t that bothered and watched with some resignation that she was not going to give him much peace…

Heidi

Heidi has now found a home !!

Heidi [ GSDx ] has arrived.
A gentle soul who has clearly been socialised with other dogs.
She met Missy first who was quite grumpy and no reaction from her apart from to sensibly back off.
Next she met Pippin who likes to strut his stuff to begin with when meeting new dogs.
Within a 5 mins they were chasing each other up and down the garden.
She does startle easily from a sudden noise accompanied by a human movement which tells me maybe she has been smacked.
She will soon get over this. A really lovely girl and youngish.
Not going to inspect her teeth yet to determine her age as she has enough new experiences on her first day to cope with.
Considering she has only been with us for a couple of hours she is so far taking it all in her stride
