Colin has gone to his new home today !!

Poor Colin has just been rescued from Ireland where he was kept locked in a shed and beaten.

He is a year old and is already getting more confident with the other dogs at the rescue.

Henry has now been re-homed

Henry is a 7yr old tan and white King Charles spaniel

who has just arrived at the rescue.

Pip is a 5 month old Heinz 57 pup

She gets on well with other dogs

Theo is a 10 month old Lurcher who is good with other dogs.

progress update: 2nd Sep

Billy and Basil have now been re-homed !!

Billy & Basil are border terriers just over 4 years old

They have come from a good home but unfortunately now need to find a new one.

They are KC registered, micro chipped and up to date with worming and vaccinations.

They wouldn’t be ok with cats as they always chase them
but have never caught one-thankfully-and they would probably be best
without other dogs as they can get over excited around them.

They are used to children aged 4 – 8

You were absolutely spot on about Sammy needing to be around another dog!
His personality changed completely when we brought him back to be with the boys again.
He was quite nervous but he has been affectionate and enjoys being stroked and tickled.

He ate well when he was left alone with no distractions.
He thinks men (well Mark) are lost sheep that need to be rounded up!

Unfortunately he didn’t take advantage of the garden & the nice weather this weekend.
The big wide world was a bit much for him especially as it was windy.
He would make a few brave attempts to go outside but frequently returned to the safety of the crate and was happy to stay there or keep me company in the lounge.
He did have an extremely brave moment on sunday morning when he chased up the garden and back into the house three times in succession the look on his face was hilarious!

Considering his dislike of going outside he was clean in the house.
I have never known a dog hold on so long between calls of nature without an accident.
What has he been used to? we ask ourselves!

I don’t think he knows what to make of dog toys.
The ball I left around for him got a few funny looks but his curiosity must have got the better of him because I later found it in his bed.
He went off it again when he sat on it and it let out a long loud squeak!.
The football also got some attention when he thought I wasn’t looking but given his nervous disposition I removed it just in time to stop him popping it!
Instead he made his own fun by ripping up the newspaper I had put out in case of accidents.
He was delighted when I presented him with his very own cardboard tube and a small box to destroy.

I’ve just finished picking up the bits! (I think he’s into recycling or paper mache)

Sammy is about a year old and very affectionate.
He will make a very loyal companion.

He was kept in a very small pen with another puppy for most of his life.

His only contact with people was when he was fed.

As he was not socialised as a puppy he has taken a long time to trust people and get used to new surroundings and everyday objects.

He was very unsure of himself when he was out of his familiar surroundings.

He has made great progress and is beginning to show his real character.

He loves his walks and is very good with other dogs.

He needs a home where there is another dog as he has always been with one and it will give him the confidence that he lacks.

We are really pleased to hear that Harley loves his new home!

“Just to let you know that Harley has settled in so well.

Buster adores him (Peter does as well)

He really is a delightful chap and so loving.

He found out how to use the dog door quickly and is out in the garden with Buster roaring round.

We couldn’t have picked a better dog, thank you for letting us adopt him.

progress update: 4th July

Harley’s shampoo and set day.

Today I needed to be clean for some mysterious reason that only Helen knew.
She locked the other dogs out and filled a bucket with water which she then threw over me !
I didn’t understand why she would do this and felt it best not to co-operate with this strange behaviour.
This resulted in me being tied to the taps whilst she lathered some smelly stuff into my coat.
Here at the rescue no one worries too much how dirty we get on walks so there is a lot of dirt in my coat.
I could hear Helen muttering that she didn’t know how she was ever going to get me clean and it was a job for the professionals.
If Sue hadn’t moved to Australia she would of groomed me whilst Helen had a cuppa and kept her feet dry.
Helen’s feet were very wet after I had jumped about a bit.
Even after three scrubs my curly soft coat still had dirt in it,
this comes from enjoying rolling in mud.
Sue has banned Helen from ever cutting dog’s coats as she is not the best stylist with the scissors,
in spite of this she said the only way to tackle the job was to cut some of my gorgeous coat.
I was very patient and stood very still as she was rather close to my manhood.

Eventually she said I would do, put a new collar on me with a new tag and put me in the car.

She took me to a nice doggy hotel called White Topps where a lady was waiting to meet me.
She also had a Wheaten Terrier called Buster and we like each other straight away.

We went for a walk along the beach together and then Helen told me that I would have to leave her and be brave as I had a new home, but not to worry as I could come back if I am not happy.
I wasn’t sure at first and stuck close to her but now as you will see from my photo with my new pal that I am very pleased to be in my new home!

HARLEY’S DIARY JUNE 14th

I have been told that I am a big woolly bear and that Helen could just eat me up.

I do hope that she doesn’t mean this in the way that I would like to eat cats!

Dooley has been trying to teach me sky chasing and
groaning but I am much more interested in chasing my ball.

I have been told several times that I am an absolute dream out on a walk,

I do try to be on my best behaviour and always come back when called.

Sometimes though I see scary reflections in the window or hear
a noise outside and then I can be very protective and run outside to
growl and charge the intruder.

Helen says that I get spooked by strange
things and as I don’t believe that humans know how
to look after themselves I feel I have to do this for them.

She says that I will need a home that will work with me to get me over this and
as I am terrier and not a woolly bear I have a terrier mind set.

Sometimes in my past people have not been too kind to me and have hit me,

so if I hear a raised voice or a quick movement I still duck my
head down and try to be invisible.

I don’t do this as much as I used to
as Helen doesn’t believe in hitting dogs and hates cruelty.

Harley is still awaiting a home.

He is a neutered male wheaten terrier approx 2-3yrs old

He is very good natured and friendly,

great fun and very playful,

a lovely chap if occasionally a bit boisterous.

Harley is very sociable when out, loves to chase a ball, meet new dogs and people.

He is the model of good behaviour when called.

He’s not fond of swimming but loves to get his feet wet

He is also very well mannered in the car.

His blood test results were clear and he seems in
the best of health!

Hi Helen just dropping you a note to let you know that Holly is still
enjoying her new home and is certainly part of the family.
Since we have had her we have had a baby and and as always Holly is as loving
and gentle as ever .
The baby loves watching Holly and giggles when Holly walks past her chair.
I am so glad we found you and Holly and keep up the good work
You are an angel for the work you do xxxxx
