Barry (a.k.a Homer) and Molly

Barry and Molly have now found a home !!

progress update: 13/5/12

Hi Helen,

Barry has been here for a week now and has settled in nicely.
His confidence is growing every day and he has the sweetest nature.
He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a lick, but is still very shy of sudden movements and will quickly retreat to a corner until he feels safe again.
He has shown no interest in chasing or barking at the cats, even when my largest cat uses him as a back rub!
He has taught himself how to use the cat flap and as such, is clean inside. He sleeps quietly in the kitchen overnight.
He was very nervous around the children to start with and although still a little cautious, is happy enough to let them stroke him and will roll onto his back for tummy rubs.

He is getting used to wearing a collar and walking on the lead, but his nerves get the better of him when outside as he is not keen on the whoosh as cars go by!

Barry will make a wonderful addition to a household where someone can spend lots of time with him.
He is a super little chap who is very eager to please, but his new home will have to be patient with him and continue to improve his confidence.

Molly has now been rehomed !!

Thank you Pets At Home !!

Pets at Home invited DAWGdogs to the open day of their new store at
Branksome
today to promote the Rescue and we would like to thank them for
this opportunity.

Helen would also like to thank Angela, Claire, Kasey and Simba (one of the DAWGdogs) for their help today.
Simba was an absolute star wagging his tail at all the people who stopped to talk to him
and ask Kasey about his skin problem.
He gave it his best and charmed many people into giving him treats.
We raised £83.53 towards Simba’s skin reconstruction which is to start
in October after his holiday in Wales with his foster Mum and Dad and canine friend Buddy.

Simba has a nasty skin scar which hasn’t healed properly
after he was knocked down by a car two years ago.
This started to bleed after he came into the rescue and he was seen by Kasey’s vet
Mr Spencer of Spring Corner Vets who specialises in skin reconstruction.
Even though some of the wound has healed this skin is tight and without surgery will not heal completely.
Mr Spencer is interested in this type of work and has kindly agreed to do the operations at a reduced price,
but this will still run into several hundred pounds depending on how many operations are needed.

We are starting a Simba appeal to help with the costs of this treatment
and if you would like to contribute this can be done via Paypal on our website or by contacting the Rescue.

We would like to thank Claire who raised an additional £31.97

collecting at Pets at Home on her own on Sunday.

We at the Rescue would like to wish Angela and Colin a Happy Anniversary for today and thank Angela for coming along today even though she had a meal to cook for several people.

We would also like to thank Mr Glover the manager at Pets at Home for the food that he donated to the Rescue.

Southbourne Fun Day Dog Show 2009

On the 6th June we were invited by The Southbourne Traders Association to run
a dog show at their annual Fun day.

Angela, Colin, Claire, Jane, Jeremy, Sharon, Georgina, Joy and Allen kindly
offered to organise and run the show.
They all pitched in on the day to ensure that this ran smoothly and was a great success.
Everyone who went to the show with their dogs had a great day out.
I can’t thank them enough for stepping in and offering to do this for the
rescue, especially as these wonderful people also foster dogs for the
rescue, take them to vet appointments and still have time to fit in
work and family life.
Thank you so much.
They raised £137.00 on the day which a fantastic amount for a small show.
Claire took photos on the day and anyone interested in having a copy
of a photo of their dog at the show please contact us and we will try
to arrange this for you.
