Going to the Fun Day Dog Show?

1/9/11

I wonder if I’ll be seeing you all at the annual DAWGdogs Fun Day Dog Show on Sunday?

I hope so although I suspect that Helen will no doubt find many excuses have many good reasons not to take me.

The primary reason I suppose, is that I’d win all of the events and the other dogs would get jealous. Quite obviously I’d be the best at everything as I’m Top Dog.

Ahh! I can picture it now, bowing humbly on the podium whilst being showered with applause, rosettes, bonios and wolf-ette whistles from the adoring crowd, my broad shoulders hung with dozens of multi-coloured ribbons bearing such noble honours as:

The Best Dog Ever !
The Dog With The Most Bonios Ever !
The Most Handsome Dog Ever !
The Most Modest Dog Ever !
The Dog Who Barks The Loudest !
The Dog With The Cleanest Ears 2011 !
The Dog Who Looks Most Like Himself !
The Dog Who You Have Least Likelihood Of Getting To Wear Fancy Dress Without Sustaining A Nasty Bite !
The Dog Who Stole The Most Cakes From The Cake Stall 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 !
The Dog Who Has Just Caused The Most Destruction To The Agility Ring !
The Most Dastardly Dog Ever !
The Only Dog So Unhomeable That Helen Was Forced To Keep Him Herself !
The Dog Who Has Started The Most Fights !
The Dog Who Has Snaffled The Most Lunches That Didn’t Belong to Him!
The Dog Who Has To Wait Longest For His Dinner !
The Dog Who Has To Do The Most Chores !

Oh Dear Chores… that’s a point – if Helen does take me along I’ll probably be expected to work in my Security role, with my DAWGdog Security Hi-Viz vest on. Manning Dogging the gate, overseeing the parking, admitting my banned mates  for a Bonio under the paw when the coast is clear, turning away riff-raff, biting anyone I don’t like the look of, that sort of thing.

Hmmm,  I don’t fancy having to work all day, especially as it is on my Bin Day and I’ll have get up very early. Keep Sunday Special!

Spike will be going no doubt.
Spike always goes because he fawns a lot he is always very nice to all the other dogs and everyone who meets him and makes a fuss of them.

Smeagol Jackson will also no doubt be going so that people can see that he is far more friendly in the flesh than his photos would have you believe.
He might even meet someone who falls in love with him and offers him a home.
Actually Helen might ‘accidentally’ leave him behind for that very reason…..

Maybe we could set up a petition to make sure I can come along?

I bet if Mark was coming I’d be allowed to come to keep an eye on him and stop him getting into trouble whilst Helen was busy meeting people and dogs and judging events and handing out prizes and buying up all the cakes from the cake stall before anyone else gets there so that she can eat all of them herself again like she did last year.

Then again ….

if I’m left alone at the Rescue there will be lots to do…

My dinners and treats to scoff guard…!

The other dogs’ dinners and treats to scoff guard…!!

Helen’s dinners and treats to scoff guard…!!!

A blissful few hours of peace and quiet in
my big comfy bed without Spike and Jackson constantly hogging it…!

or actually even better …!!

A blissful few hours of peace and quiet in
Helen’s comfy bed whilst she’s guaranteed not to be able to catch me at it!!!

I’m rather looking forward to it all again now!

Chip the cairn terrier

Chip has now found a home !!

progress update: 1/9/11

Chip was quite stressed when he arrived not knowing where he was going or the person that brought him on the long journey.
But now he has settled into his foster home he has relaxed and is getting on well as reported below by Jackie his foster Mum.

After getting off to an inauspicious start by arriving in a crate with a muzzle on Chip has turned out to be a real cutie.
Gets on with our dog Basil and the cat although is a bit nervous when people or cars approach when out for a walk.
Has met a few new people since he has arrived and has been friendly with a wagging tail. Loves playing with a tennis ball and showed a marked interest in the hosepipe when turned on, so would probably love watery walks.
All in all a super little dog.

Chip has now found a home !!

Thank you Eileen!

We would all like to say a special

“Thank you!”

to Eileen in Ireland who has taken under her wing Gypsy and her puppies, the Cavalier, The Cairn Terrier and a little 5 month old Collie type girl who will all be arriving at the rescue soon.
Eileen is lovely, one of life’s special souls who hears about these unfortunate dogs, saves their lives and then find places for them.
Many of our dogs come from Ireland and people like Eileen, Tessa and Catherine help them on their way to safe places where they can then be found homes.
Without this network of kind people many of these dogs would never reach rescues in England.

Zia

Zia has now found a home !!

progress update from her fosterer Heleanor

Zia is a Collie cross about 18 months.
Her tail has not stopped wagging.
She pulls slightly but that can be sorted easily.
She traveled home in the car with out a peep.
She has met the cats, rabbits and chickens as well as my other dogs.
She was inquisitive but that was all.

Likes-

Long walks, cuddles, sleeping on the sofa, other small dogs, her toys, playing fetch, car rides (shortish) and coffee!

Dislikes –

Being left for long periods of time, mushrooms.

I eat anything food wise apart from Bakers as it upsets my tummy and I don’t like mushrooms.
If you leave your coffee around I will drink it ! I am trained to play, fetch, always bring the ball back to your feet.
I always enjoy fetch but also love playing football just don’t let me have the ball to long I try to chew it.
I don’t chew shoes but enjoy slippers.
I am also trained to sit, lie down, give my paw, wait, leave it and any other normal commands.
I also love playing tug of war and play fight but I can get little over excited.
I can be protective especially of women but love everybody who gives me a cuddle.

Just a little update for you Helen, and hope all is well with you and yours.
Pixie has now been spayed, as you may know, and everything went very smoothly.
She’s all healed up with no problems, back to her normal activities, and thoroughly enjoying herself !
Thought you might like to see these pics, one of them chasing around in the fields, and the other of them both relaxing in the garden.
Best regards from Lynne, Holly & Pixie.

progress update: 4/7/10

Hi Helen,
Just thought you might like these photos, one of Holly & Pixie playing, and the others taken on the patio,
after a long walk and a swim. They are getting closer by the day, and Pixie really brings Holly, (who’s 10 now),
to life on their walks.
Pixie is absolutely full of beans, loves swimming, looking for rabbits, and chasing with other dogs too, which is great.
I have had a small problem with them stealing each other’s beds, which I can smile about in the daytime,
but am not quite so happy with at 2 – 3am in the morning, when Holly usually whinges as she can’t get back in her own bed as Pixie’s right in the middle of it !
The last couple of nights have been peaceful, so obviously my persistence has now paid off ??!!!
I just love them to bits, and it’s great to see that Holly has really accepted her now and gets pleasure from having her around.
She’s still top dog though of course, which Pixie is more than happy with, and takes lots of examples from her.
Luv from Lynne, Holly and Pixie x

progress update 5/5/10

Thought you might like to see this Helen, both the girls half asleep after a long, fun walk and big dinner !
Although Pixie (Faye) tries to show affection to Holly occasionally, it’s not reciprocated yet,
Holly rather ignores her most of the time, so they don’t really interact much yet.
They are quite happy living together though, and Pixie has developed a very strong attachment to me,
which I’m pleased about.
I’m hoping they will get a bit closer eventually, but there are no guarantees, as you know,
and you can’t force the issue.
Best regards, from Lynne
