progress update: 29/7/11
Jet’s foster mum is so taken with him that she has decided to keep him herself!!!
New into the Rescue is Jet who is a mixture of all sorts just a year or so old,
fabulous with other dogs and gets on with children.
He arrived to us from one of the London pounds and luckily for him was
looked after by the kind lady who found him at her house rather than have to go into the kennels.

I have settled in my foster home with Fiona really well, I am really good with her little boy and have not had any mishaps !!! Although I have only been with Fiona for a few days Ii am also behaving really well.
Fiona had to pop out the other day… I have to say she was really pleased that Ii continue to be very good, so much so I was given treats ..YUM !
I’m a really nice friendly chap who would be a loving companion in a forever home, plus I’m really cute and lovable…

Bin Day is an event which I’m sure you all are used to by now, but have you ever actually stopped to think about it?
I have bin ( sorry! ) been thinking about it a lot this morning.
We are all used to the bin being emptied once a week and the council moaning over this and that which they will and won’t take if they feel like it despite the fact they’re paid to do so by us in the first place and perhaps it would be better for them to only empty it once a fortnight now as it would be easier for them but really it would be better all around if they only had to empty it once a year and then they could spend the rest of the time putting their feet up and drinking tea.
We know the rubbish now needs to be sorted into recyclable, non-recyclable and compostable but I bet most of you don’t know that it is my job to empty the bins out at the Rescue. Oh yes I get all the posh jobs me, sometimes I think Helen would even have me cleaning up my own poo if she could !!
For some reason lost in the mists of time Bin Day at the Rescue has always been on Sunday, so this morning, just like every Sunday morning I’ve had to do the bins.
No chance of a nice lie-in for me at the weekend, oh no! No breakfast in bed for poor old Mutley, no ” I’ll just have a nice snooze for ten more minutes and then perhaps another cup of tea before I get up “.
So today I deliberately made a lot of noise about it, banging the bin and repeatedly calling out ” Keep Sunday Special !!” in a loud voice to vent my frustration and make Helen feel guilty about making me do such a demeaning job on what should be my Day Of Rest.
I must have struck a raw nerve, because when she came down ( to get more tea!! can you believe it?!!! ) instead of thanking me for doing such a good job so early in the morning, she seemed as cross as she always is on Bin Day.
I’ll never understand why she’s always in a bad mood whenever she gets up on Sunday mornings…

Hi Helen,
Thought you’d like to see Peanut after being with me for 4 months.
As you can see he is a happy and fit little boy. by the way he didn’t win the race but his friend Jazz is much bigger.
He is incredibly well behaved even though he has the typical Jack Rusell temperament in many ways.
He is truly my perfect companion and I am so much fitter as being a young dog he needs decent walks.
Thank you for letting me be his lucky new mum.

progress update: 8/3/11
Greetings from Peanuts – Alderneys’ new resident.
He travelled here in true stoic Jack Russell style – mainly asleep!
After thoroughly checking out the house and garden it was time for dinner then bed.
Next day he learnt that cars are not so bad after all – lots of short trips rewarded by a walk when the car stopped, he now jumps in eagerly.
He enjoys his meals, not so keen on the biscuits as I had been warned but moistened with chicken stock makes them better. We’ve had happy meetings with other dogs especially another small JRT,
Rosie from Battersea Dogs Home.
Hopefully Peanuts will have his first off lead playtime with her on the beach tomorrow.
He is settling in really well , a happy chappy with a waggy tail. For me, well it was love at first sight.

progress update: 17/2/11
This super chap was found straying, he is roughly 3-4 years old.
A gem of a dog who loves other dogs and people and as you can see is very attached to the puppies who are bigger than him and when there were five living here all piled on top of him.
He is so tolerant.
Anyone welcoming him into their house will be very lucky people.

Gus is a year and a half old terrier, bright, lively fella who gets on with other dogs but not small furry creatures.
Gus came to the allotment with me and Charlie who is fostering him and was quite well behaved though into everything that was new .

He and is settling into his foster home.
Roxy is a two year old Boxer who has grown up with young children and other dogs.
She has been a much loved pet but due to health problems her family has handed her into the rescue.
Roxy is gentle and quiet and has a sweet nature.

Ollie is neutered approx 1-2 years old.
Had 2 vax 2 weeks ago.
Barks at cats but not aggressive with them.
Would chase a horse (!) but very friendly with dogs and a lovely friendly and very loyal lad
progress update: 19/7/11
Hi Helen,
Toby (aka Mr T.) has been with us 3 months now and is doing great.
He was castrated recently and recovered from this very well, he never even licked or chewed at his stitches once!
He is such a good boy! He has put on weight and toned up with all the running and excercise.
He has settled quickly and I am home with him most of the time.
We have re-vaccinated to enable us to go to dog classes, which will start next month.
He can’t wait to get in the van to go out and play with his ball!!
Toby will soon be a year old, so we are all looking forward to celebrating his day.
I enclose photos of Toby, he has brought us a lot of happiness and joy.

Hi Helen,
Toby has been with us 2 weeks now and has settled in really well.
He loves his walks in the forest and getting use to the ponies, cows and donkeys.
He has also tried to make friends and play with the ponies in the field behind the house.
He loves playing ball and has learned quickly how to drop the ball, sit, wait and lie down.
He loves demolishing his toys, he makes us laugh when he tosses them around!
Clever boy, very active and has lots of love and cuddles to give.
He is much better at night in his crate/bed and excellent when travelling.

progress update : 17/4/11
Toby spent a brief 24 hours in his new home and came back.
Not his fault at all the people found they couldn’t cope with a dog.
Toby is a fantastic dog good in the house, with children, cats, horses, livestock and dogs what more could you ask for and excellent off the lead to boot.
When he first came back he barked a little and this is to be expected but soon stopped and settled down and was quiet all night.
He is a first class passenger in the car and didn’t get involved with the the raiding of the food bag by the other dogs when I was driving them to their walk.
Toby is Springer spaniel size, his Dad was a Springer Spaniel and his Mother was a Collie.
He is just 8 months old and anyone who is lucky enough to have this dog and not be pleased with him needs to be sectioned.
Oh and he is clean in the house also perfect dog.
progress update: 23/3/11
Toby has now been with us a few days, and has settled in very well, he is house trained and no problem at night, he sleeps in his crate.
He loves playing with any toy and likes to play ‘find the toy’ and chasing after a ball is his favourite pastime, his recall is excellent and he would be excellent at fly ball and agility.
He has a fantastic temperament and is excellent with our grandchildren, and other dogs,
he is a lovely chap who enjoys lots of walks and cuddles.

Toby arrived today, he is a spaniel cross collie, and he is 7 months old,
Mum was a border collie cross and dad a brown Spaniel making him a sprollie
He has settled in very quickly, he has a lovely temperament, is good with children and is having a great time playing with our dogs.
He is a loving little chap with lots of energy, so will need an active new home, he is crate and house trained and is apparently good with cats and has been around horses and cows and is fine.
Out of the blue New Milton Town Council have decided that they will,
with no consultation or discussion, not be renewing our Lease for the
Dog House on Long Meadow when it expires at the end of Jan 2012. This
is on the grounds that the Dog House is and eyesore. We have been
for 10 1/2 years and have maintained every aspect of the
building so that it looks better now than it did then. So why!??
There is a meeting of the Finance & General Purposes Committee on
Tuesday 19th July at the Town Hall at 7.30 at which we have 3 mins to
state our case.
So we need your active support now by signing our online petition at
www.friendlydogs.com and writing a letter of support and
recommendation (sample letter attached) either directly to Graham
Flexman, Town Clerk, NM Town
Council, The Town Hall, 2 Ashley Road, New Milton, Hants, BH25 6AS, or
sending it to me Angela Horsley 42 Montagu Road, Highcliffe, BH23 5JX
to take to the meeting. We suggest if you post the letter you get
proof of postage.
It is important to convey to the Council that we are part of the
community, providing education, training and working with other local
charitable groups for the good of the community.
If this is allowed to go ahead it will be the end of the Friendly Dog
Club and the unique service that we provide within Dorset & Hampshire.
The help and advise we give to dog owners and the charitable events
that we run for Rest Homes, Churches, Lions & Rotary will all be lost
forever.
We need your immediate active support to save our Club.
