Milly

Milly has now been rehomed !!

progress update: 28th Nov 09

Milly has become an absolute little treasure.

She and my other dog Jack, have become really good friends.  He was a wimp before hand, but has found the guts to stand up to her, and now looks out for her!!   He is quite the good dad!!  We wanted a dog as a companion for him too, and it has worked out really well.  They play “tuggy” together, which is Jack’s favourite game.  He still wins!!  She can still be annoying – but he handles her brilliantly.

Milly is just such a bright cookie, and has learnt so much.  She is no longer crated, and managed teething and not destroying my house! (which HAS happened with a previous dog I rescued!!).  She is also a shadow – she follows you absolutely everywhere- and gets right under your feet.  But although she loves to be around me and my husband, she also loves to be around Jack too.  Fab.  Best result ever.

Her only fault is that she would still rather pee indoors than out on a rainy day!!   Oh yeh,  and also when it’s dark – although she usually wakes us up and asks for an escort!! (despite there being dog flaps, and so she could do it on her own, and does so perfectly well in the daylight!!)

She still has not come in to season.  But that should be imminent.  So expect to have her spayed early in the New Year, when I will send you the necessary paperwork.

Just looked at your website and would love to adopt them all.   But know that Milly needs to grow up a bit, before we can take on another unknown.  But I am thinking about it again in a year or two.

Thanks once again to you and all your foster parents for caring for these animals.  You all do a wonderful job.

progress update: 6th Sep 09

She is brill.

She is cuddly, so intelligent and obedient when it suits her!

She can “sit”, “paw” and sometimes “come” when she chooses. She
understands “no” but doesn’t always obey. “leave” other animals alone,
is a little tricky!!

She does a kind of “fetch”, but doesn’t always bring back

She can do her business outside, but sometimes the journey seems too
far to bother, or it could be wet!!

She is much better at greeting humans without nipping, but she still
needs more dogs to put her in her place, as mine is such a wimp!!

Nextdoor’s dog is much better at telling her to behave.

She went out for her first walk today, as her jabs are now all in
place, and she loved it, after the first 2 minutes, which were very
scary.

All in all, I think she’s an absolute star!!

Hoping to start obedience classes soon.

Really hope the other 2 pups get homed soon.

Milly has now been rehomed !!

progress update: 17th Aug 09

Dear Helen,
This time some photos too – the lad in the photo is my son. My daughter is
coming home at the weekend just to see Milly too!
Milly is just adorable. Really starting to find her feet now! Vet has
checked her all over, and she is fine. She has had her first jabs, and on
the way back from vet, fell asleep in the cat basket! She gets second jabs
in 2 weeks along with her microchip – but she has a dog tag on in the
meantime. She is slowly getting used to the collar.
Our vets like to spay after her first season, just so you know.
Milly is starting to learn “sit” – just ‘cos she’s so brilliantly clever!
Not sure she is really relating the command to the act yet – but she is a
really clever little thing. Only one poo indoors – all the rest have been
outside. Urinating is coming along well too – most are outside. She has got
up in the night and used the training pads!! How impressive!
She loves all the toys. She fetches, loves balls, rings, chew toys and will
rip cuddly toys to shreds (just like Jack does). At the moment, she is not
strong enough to “destuff” her cuddly toy, but when she is, that will have
to disappear!. She has just found the skirting board is possibly chewable,
so I suspect we may be very glad we are crate training her.
Jack is unsure whether to put her in her place or just give in to her
completely – but I suspect she will be the dominant one. Tigger is coping
really well with her, but she does have to be told to leave him alone
sometimes.
All in all she had made amazingly quick adjustments and is very impressive
and so very cuddly!
Hope you like the photos.

Barney

progress update: 13th Dec 09

Barney will be going to his new home later this week !!

progress update from Claire: 17th Nov 09

Barney has just met Marley. Tony is so pleased with Marley, he’s got him in the van with his choice of waterproof coat or fleece!. He did recognise me and got very excited to say hello.

I took Barney for his first proper walk today. His foot doesn’t seem to trouble him at all. He pulls quite a bit and is desperate to chase birds. He’s very play bitey at the moment which I’m trying to stop. He likes toys so I can get him to chew on those instead of my hands most of the time.
He cried alot sunday night but has been quiet since. He is still quite a puppy!
He was a bit fussy about dry food only, so I got some tins. He likes his meat and his tummy has been fine on it.
He will go in the crate when he wants to but when I want him to it’s a game for him, where he tears off in the other direction sending his water bowl flying. He settles down alright though. He is friendly towards other dogs.

progress update from Claire

You wouldn’t know he’d been travelling!
After his long journey, a dose of worm treatment & some flea spray on his arrival, plus another car ride, I expected him to want to curl up for a sleep the moment we got home. Not so! He was keen to get into the garden, do his business, play with some toys, guzzle some rain water from the bench cover and pose for photos.
His right foot has clearly suffered a neglected break which is very obvious when he walks or sits.

We usually only rehome within approx 30miles of the Bournemouth / Poole area
so that we can ensure the continued well-being of the dogs in our care.
We will only re-home further afield if the homes are exceptional.
We are NOT looking for just ANY home that is offered.
All potential homes will be assessed to try and ensure the best possible home
to cater for the differing needs of each individual dog that we rescue.

Dotty

progress update: 13th Dec 09

Dotty has now been rehomed !!

progress update from Jackie: 11th Nov 09

Hiya just a few lines about Dotty.

She’s a Doberman/Collie cross of about 19 weeks.

Her previous owners didn’t want her!! I can’t imagine why as she’s a real sweetie.

She responds well to training although her recall can be a bit hit or miss but she’s not too difficult to catch.

Being so young she is very active for short periods but hasn’t the stamina to keep going for too long and just curls up for a sleep.

She gets on well with our dog Basil and plays tug of war with him, but when Basil has had enough of playing he lets Dotty know and she backs off.

She’s only a puppy and she will chew but is easily distracted with something that she can chew.

We have had a couple of accidents but since she has learned to use the cat flap she’s no problem. Dotty doesn’t bark very often and is learning not to jump up at people.
All in all Dotty is a very happy dog and would make a lovely pet.

Dotty is a 19 week old collie cross doberman

She is very sweet natured, already sitting and giving her paw for her food.

Dottie will be a very easy dog to train.

She is fostering with Bob and Jackie

Elf

Elf has now been rehomed !!

Hi Helen

I just wanted to say thank you for bringing Elf into our lives.

He is totally adorable and learning all the time; he has been with us less than a week but already feels like part of the family.

We will send you some pictures when he is still long enough (at the moment that is when he is asleep)!

Mostly we have shots of a tail disappearing off the edge of the picture!

Regards

Angie

Elf gets on well with other dogs

Blue (a.k.a Big Bear, a.k.a Red)

Blue has found a home !!

progress update: 11th Nov 09
Blue the Rhodesian Ridgeback has gone to foster with Bonnie and Chris with a view to keeping him!!

progress update from Chris and Bonnie: 8th Nov 09

Blue has only been with us for a few days and he is doing great.
He gets on well with the children and our other dawdog Duchess.
He has lost weight already he loves his new food and two long walks in the woods a day,
we are very proud of him at making such an achievement in a short space of time.
We call him Big Bear he is so cuddly.
Other dog walkers see Blue running towards them to greet them and they are scared because of his size but once they stroked and talked to him their heart beats slowed down and they all love him around here.

Red is a 4 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback
He is good with other dogs and cats but unfortunately is now too strong for the lady we homed him with two years ago.
He will stay in his present home for the next few weeks and we hope to be able to find him a home which he can move straight to from his present one, which will be less upheaval for him.
