Mystery Dog Illness New Forest update

NFDOG and Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists are very grateful for all the donations (totalling over £10,000 now!) they have been receiving for the aim of furthering research into ‘Alabama Rot’.
Two projects have already been undertaken and although nothing positive has been detected, a few more possibilities have been ruled out.  Urine toxicology tests have been carried out on a number of sick dogs in an attempt to identify a toxin that may have been ingested, but nothing definite was discovered.
A very kind and grieving family agreed to a full post mortem on a dog they had sadly lost, hoping that this would help the cause.  The knowledge base continues to be built.
NFDOG Chairman, Heather Gould, said “We are not expecting any exciting break throughs in the medium term, but believe that every test that rules something out is a small step forward.  The research fund is open to any vet who wants to research something specific about the illness and applications should be made via Anderson Moores.

The Forestry Commission have asked for our help to make more information widely available to the public. They have a downloadable poster at http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/eng_NF_AlabamaRot_Mar14.pdf/$FILE/eng_NF_AlabamaRot_Mar14.pdf  and would like members of the public to print out and display this in areas of the Forest that do not already have it up. If posters are to be displayed outside of the New Forest, the FC logo must be removed please.

Storm

Storm has now found a home !!

progress update: 19/3/14

Storm has proved to be a wonderful dog, we are very happy she has joined the family,
even Murphy the cat seems to have accepted her!!
She is getting lots of lovely walks & walks well to heel & is extremely obedient & well behaved!!

Storm is a fantastic dog, she’s very well behaved and is a real couch potato!

Storm is two years old and a mixture with a dash of Lurcher in her.
She is good with children and other dogs.

Roy the black lab

Roy has now found a home !!

This big boy is Roy 20 month old neutered and fully vaccinated –
this boy is just a sweet heart he loves everyone!!
loves to chase a ball, he’s on a diet at the moment with plenty of exercise in the woods which he is loving and keeps up with the others no problems
he is not a lazy dog he just needed more exercise which his previous owners couldn’t give him,
he loves his walks and would be out all day if he could,
he is very strong on the lead at the moment but perfect off lead,
he loves plenty of fuss, he is quiet and clean in the house

 

Jack the Beagle

Jack has returned safe and well!

The errant Jack has returned home.

His people deserve a medal for putting up with his escapades for all these years!

This is Jack who has been missing since the weekend.
Jack was adopted many years ago and has always been an escape artist but usually comes home.
This time he has not and everyone is very worried about him as he is an old boy now.

Sky

Sky has now found a home !!

Sky is a bundle of fun.
She gets on well with other dogs and children and has lived with younger children in her previous home and in her foster home.
Not good with cats.
Yvonne her foster Mum will write more about her now she has had time to settle in at her house.

Chloe (a.k.a Bobbie)

REHOMED !!

progress update: 5/3/14

Just a quick update on Bobbie (named after Bobbie Wickham from the Jeeves & Wooster stories as she is short and bossy!).

She’s only been here for 24 hours and has made herself right at home.
Beano and her have been playing all day and he is loving have a pal.
We’ve been out for a walk and she’s met some other dogs (she does bark at them but only to make them play) and she desperately wanted to chase a cyclist but other than that, she was perfectly well behaved.
She slept well last night and has eaten all her food.
She’s worked out how to use the dog flap and has been charging around the garden with Beano and has been taking naps on my lap whilst I am working at the computer.
She already comes to her new name and loves her treats!
She really is a sweet little soul.

Chloe has now found a home !!

progress update: 24/2/14

We have only looked after Chloe for 4 days but we have found that she is a very confident little dog.
Absolutely full of love, wants to cuddle and play.
She will make a wonderful companion dog, but she doesn’t seem to get on well with other dogs.
She travels very well in the car, eagerly eats her food and she plays beautifully
with her ‘tugging’ toy and brings it to you to join in the game.
In fact the barking and growling at the other dogs might well be an invitation to play.
She does however growl and lunge at other dogs on the walk.
She loves having a bath or shower when she is muddy and especially enjoys the cuddle in a towel afterwards.
She has been sleeping overnight in a crate and we didn’t hear a peep out of her.
We leave the crate door open during the day and she’s popped in for a doze once or twice.
I can’t stress enough how loving she is to people.
Her only problems are pulling on the lead and barking at other dogs, although she
did try to chase a horse and a jogger whilst on her walk.
She has been used to a harness and lead which is not good for training.
Her first owner did say they hadn’t trained her at all.
The fact that she is homeless is in no way her fault, she has been a sad victim of peoples circumstances.
