Polly

progress update: 13th Dec 09

Hi Helen

Thanks to your website and Debbie, I have just had a great year with Polly who is now a very big part of my life!
She is a beautiful, lovely girl, although does have a rather naughty streak at times, but that all adds to her huge character!
Sorry for the delay in giving you an update on her, but the past year has just flown by!
Debbie did warn me that Polly has selective hearing when she is off the lead so it took me from November until February to actually risk letting her off the lead! I finally let her off on the beach at Goodrington (in Paignton, Devon) and she had a great time! It was so lovely to watch her enjoying racing around the beach so freely!
Since then she has walked countless coastal paths, woods and fields and never seems to get tired or run out of smells! She really enjoys playing with her ball down on the beach but we have to keep our distance from the other dogs as she doesn’t seem to like many dogs at first meeting!! She has become friendly with my friends dog, Duke, who is a male German Shepherd, although she did make his nose bleed on their first meeting!! She has also shared her home with another friends dog for a few weeks, Buddy, a male black Labrador, so she can be friendly and playful when she wants to be – moreso with boys than girls though!
We started Beginners Dog Training Classes back in May and Polly came First in her class – with a rosette to prove it! We finished Intermediate I Training Classes a few weeks ago and she successfully passed that stage too. We will be enrolling on the Intermediate II Classes which start in February and I have no doubt she will be up for the challenge. She is a very clever girl who certainly knows what to do, but sometimes chooses to do it when she wants to and not when she is supposed to! The classes have helped us grow a stronger bond and remind her that I am in charge (most of the time!).
She is a very loving little girl who loves to have her tummy tickled at every opportunity – particularly when she knows she has done something naughty and wants to distract your attention!! She loves being stroked and will let you know if she wants more! She is a very contented little dog who loves pretty much everything, but especially enjoys cuddles, playing with her ball, walks/runs, drives in the car and chasing the cats from next door!
My friend Russell has been taking Polly for lots of nice, long walks lately whilst I have been at work, but after a few weeks of Polly having 4-6 hour walks when Russell was ready to go home after 2 hours, she is having to stay on the lead for a while now…!
I have attached some photos to show you what Polly has been up to over the past year.
So that’s a very brief update on what Polly has been up to in the last year, but I thought you might like to know that she is doing well and seems very happy in her new home and is making those around her very happy too.
Once again, many thanks for bringing Polly into my life and I hope you are able to continue all the good work you do at dawgdogs for a long time to come.
We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas.

Take Care
Sarah and Polly xx
