Toby (a.k.a Dustos , a.k.a Dusty)

REHOMED

progress update: 24/11/10
I have gone to live with John and Jill Williams, two Lurcher boys and various cats of ages ranging from 2 to 23 years of age some of who are crippled or blind.
I am now called Toby I really like it here and like to follow John to the toilet offering to help with his daily abolutions. He is not keen on my help. I have learnt to open doors which is nothing for a dog of my intelligence not that I am boasting of course !!!! Recently I locked John and Jill out of the house , John and Jill had gone out to the car and put the door on the latch I wanted to follow them to see if they were behaving and pushed the lock up and locked them out. Luckily a builder was working next door and took the lock out of the door so they could get in which was a shame as I was raiding the kitchen bin when he came in and the cats were waiting for any bits that I threw them.

Well as you can tell I love them all very much and have got my feet under the table here.

Dustos has now been rehomed !!

progress update 15/8/10

Well, my third day here and I getting the hang of Englizh very quick. I already know my name and come and Helen is teach me to sit. I love my cosy bed and Mutley has let me in the middle room where hiz bed is few times. I am loving the Englizh food and I am eat three times a day i have to put on kilos. It a bit wet here not like Greece where it hot. Lots of funny, new smelz and new girl arrive today whoze a name is Cara, she very attractive. Helen say because I street dog I have perfect manners with other dogs.
I off to sleep now so more of my excitement tomorrow. I learning Englizh from Radio 4 Helen say that they speaka the Queens Englizh and in calm voice.

progress update 14/8/10
Well I hava final arrived in Englisz after a veeery long time of waiting and lotta of help from some very spezial people.
It is all a bit how do you say- strange but the dog network in Greece is that homes in Englisz love dogs and we are how do say umm blood members.
I have met Mutley (who won’t let me into the middle room) Spike and Skippy but Helen says she will leave it a few days before I am introduced to Dooley an da Dexter, Dooley is a bit bossy at first and also has a continental flair to hiz character.
I am also supervized in the garden as I must admit I have been scanning the fences to see if I can a jump them. As my Englisz is not ver good I would not be able to tell a Polizeman I was lost.
They may think I had sneaked into the country and I wouldn’t be able to explain I have a passport like a real person.
I am having the trouble to understand what is being told to me but I sure that soon I will have a the hang of this Englisz.
I am ver tired so will a write more tomorrow.
I like Peter and hiz family who picked me a up from the airport and they having another Greek dog who explain a lotta to me.

Hi Helen
Phase 1 of Dustys great journey has been successfully completed and he made the ferry trip from Pireaus near Ahens to Heraklion Crete where Andy and Heather met him
as you can see he loves all people and other dogs
Phase 2 to Gatwick is on Thursday and I will phone Thursday when we have picked him up to confirm when we will be back
as you can see he is an odd mix of Dalmation and Pointer I think and a bit bigger than I had thought
He has an incredible story and I hope you can find him a fantastic home for the rest of his life and I can keep in touch with his new owners in his forever home.
From tied to a tree in a remote mountain region of Greece and left to to starve to death and then to Parkstone is quite a journey and I wont tell you [ or Jane ] how much it has all cost but looking at these pictures it has all been worth it.
His story deserves the best ending ….and he that he lives happy ever after !
Talk soon
Regards
Peter

Sam

Sam has now been rehomed !!

This is Sam.
He is a 3 year old Border terrier cross Jackie.
He is a dear little dog, very bright and quick to learn.
100% with kids and other dogs, even if they have a pop he doesn’t retaliate.
He has been castrated, micro chipped and his jabs etc are up to date.

In his previous house, he hardly ever went for a walk.
He would pee around the house, escape from the garden so often he wasn’t allowed out unless on a lead, and bark almost constantly.
He was hit and kicked fairly regularly.

So far I haven’t had any pee, he goes in the garden whenever he feels like it as the back door is always open, and he has learnt the word ‘quiet’ when he does bark.
I have also taught him ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘wait’.
I think he’d be really good at agility.
He is walked daily on the Rec and I have had no real trouble with him at all.
He does chase off after other dogs, but he always comes back when called.

I think all he needs is some stability, some boundaries and lots of affection, he will make someone a cracking dog.
He’s really good fun.

Timmy

progress update: 2/10/10

Timmy has now found a home!

Timmy arrived today and is a lovely little dog.
He responds well to commands and is very well mannered.
I haven’t had him off the lead yet but I have been told that his recall is good, we will wait and see.
I will do another update when I know him better.

Jackie

Cara

Cara has now found a home !!

Cara was taken from a pound on the day she was due to be destroyed.

Cara a black and tan Labrador cross approx 2-3 years old who once again settled straight in at the rescue with the other dogs and is an affectionate girl.

She has a fantastic temperament and did not deserve to die.

Scrappy

progress update 24/8/10

Just thought I would let you know how Scrappy is getting on as we have had him for nearly five weeks, (sorry for not getting in touch sooner).
Anyway, he’s doing really well and we love him dearly. He’s still quite jumpy whenever he hears noises that he doesn’t understand, but apart from that he seems really happy. He’s playing a lot more now – he really likes squeaky toys and he absolutely loves his walks along the seafront. We are taking him to training lessons with Kate every week and he is responding really well, although his re-call skills aren’t great, so it will be a long time before we even think of letting him off the lead outside, but he’s really affectionate and loves a cuddle on the sofa!
I’ve noticed that you are running a fun dog show in September, so we will make every effort to be there and maybe see you then.
Until then, take care, and best wishes,
Wendy, Paul and Scrappy. xx

progress update 25/7/10

Scrappy has now been rehomed !!

My name is Scrappy and I am a year old.
I arrived at the rescue today because my family couldn’t keep me anymore.
Since arriving I have got on great with the other dogs and even Dooley trying to wind me up hasn’t got my gander up.
Helen says I am good enough to eat – I hope that she doesn’t mean that I will have to keep an eye on her!

Minnie

REHOMED

progress update 7/8/10

Hi Helen, thought I ought to send you a little update on how Miss Minnie is getting on!

From the second she came through the door and met Mr Big, she has fitted in perfectly.

Mr Big was a little unsure at first as he is so much smaller than her, but it didnt take him long to fall in love. Minnie loves to barge Mr Big out of the way when cuddles and treats are being dished out. Miss Minnie has the habit of ‘swooning’ when she gets lots of cuddles and noone can budge her!

The two dogs didnt share toys for the first few days, on your suggestion but three weeks in they have started to chew eat others bones and Minnie sits patiently waiting for her treat knowing that we ‘treat’ Mr Big first.

Miss Minnie is a complete water baby and will even stand in a puddle just to get some water action. I dont know what she is crossed with, something water loving thats for sure! Mr Big doesnt share her love of the water but happily paddles his tiny feet on the waters edge to show willing. Alas, his low to the ground belly and white fluffyness means he ends up having a bath after most walks, but he considers that its a small price to pay for such happiness.

Mr Big has never learned to play as he was hand reared so Minnie started to teach him ‘chase’ and ‘sniff’ games. Mr Big now chases Minnie around the garden and on field walks and that is such a lovely sight. He isnt scared by her and she is very gentle, even when herding him when he doesnt do as he is told. Minnie is extremely well behaved and gets quite cross when naughty Mr Big lets the ‘doggie’ side down!

Scarlet loves walking with you and your pack, and loved swimming with Tess, Mutley and Minnie last week. Minnie has enjoyed racing through the fields and water with her new chums Oscar, Lottie, Lulu, Dolly, Dooley, Jasper, Tessa, Mutley, Spike, Skippy, Fudge and Kasha. She desperately wants to be part of Dooleys Swimming Gang, so we are looking forward to our trip to the river with Dooley soon. xx

progress update: 15/7/10

Minnie went to her new home tonight

This is a photo of her and Scarlet, her new young family member

Scarlets new favourite bedtime story is Dooley’s Diaries which she loves and she is eagerly awaiting his Cornwall diaries!

My name is Minnie and I have come from a home who couldn’t give me the time I needed.
I lived with with five children and cats and I am a bit if a home body, No long holidays for me I like my home surroundings.
Saying that I have settled into the rescue well and tolerate Dooley’s boastful and bossy nature I find the best thing to do when he is going on and on is to completely ignore him.
Helen let me off the lead for the first time yesterday and as she expected I have perfect recall.
