Sparky

REHOMED

progress update: 1/1/13

Hello Helen, I hope you are well.
I thought I’d update you once more on how Sparky’s year has gone.
He’s had a great time on three holidays to Cornwall, Devon and Lyme Regis.
The photo of him is on the beach in Cornwall with my aunt’s dog, Dennis.
They agreed best at a distance, but managed to set up a game of tag fetch together as Dennis couldn’t quite manage to return the ball properly, but was quite good at outrunning Sparky to get it in the first place!
He’s done okay health wise. He has a lot more fatty lumps, but the vet assures us they are benign.
He also had a problem with his eye and after much investigation the vet eventually discovered a foreign body which was successfully removed.
He is still a very happy dog at the centre of our family and is much loved.
Thank you again for our your hard work.
Have a great Christmas and I wish you all the best for the New Year,
Lauren.

progress update: 22/12/11

Hello,
Hope you have had a good year and everything is going well at DAWG.
Just to let you know, Sparky is still well though he’s had an eventful year!
In the spring he was on holiday with my parents in Devon when he got bitten by an adder (for the second time!).
Unfortunately this time he had a much worse reaction & his leg swelled up dramatically.
Being miles from the car & Sparky too heavy/in too much pain to be carried my parents made a 999 call and were transferred through to the RSPCA.
The multi-choice automated system proved impossible to navigate on a mobile phone, so they made a second 999 call.
Eventually they managed to get Sparky back to the car park where they were met by an RSPCA officer who took Sparky straight to the closest vetinary hospital.
My parents have since described it as the most traumatic experience of their lives.
Sparky was given medication, put on a drip & kept in over night and it was touch and go whether he’d survive & there was also a possibility he’d lose his leg.
After he was discharged my parents then looked after him at the cottage they were staying in – both sleeping on the floor downstairs to keep Sparky company.
When I saw Sparky a few days later he was so dosed up on painkillers that I don’t think he knew what was going on.
I’m very happy to say that Sparky has made a full recovery – let’s just hope he has learnt his lessons with regard to playing with snakes!
Apart from that Sparky has had a good year. He still enjoys his walks locally and further afield.
Now that my dad has retired there’s much more opportunity for mid-week trips to the New Forest and Sparky loves having dad home as he’s his favourite!

Needless to say he is very loved and we wouldn’t be without him, thank you again for all the work you do.

I hope you have a lovely Christmas & wishing you all the very best for the New Year,
Lauren

progress update: 10th Jan 10

Dear Helen,
I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year and everything is going well at DAWG.

Sparky is still doing really well. As well as his daily walks up the local wood/streets, he went on two walking holidays to Wales and Devon this year, which he enjoyed immensely. We had a health scare earlier when we found a large lump on his hindquarters. We took him to the vets straight away, who was of the opinion that chances were it was cancer and gave him a biopsy ASAP. We had to wait two weeks for the results. Luckily the results came back clear – the lump is just a fat deposit! As you can imagine this was a traumatic time and we were all having to try and come to terms with the prospect of losing a special member of our family – so our relief was indescribable!
I think I forgot to tell you last year that Sparky survived an adder attack. We didn’t realise at the time what had happened, but the day after we took him for a walk to the New Forest, we noticed Sparky’s chest was hugely swollen and the skin had gone a purple colour underneath the fur. Although Sparky seemed fine in himself, we took him to the vets who diagnosed an adder bite. The vet warned us at the time that he may be prone to tumours in the future, so this recent scare seemed all the more possible.

So altogether, it seems Sparky is very lucky – he seems to have more lives than a cat!
Anyway, I hope this year goes well for you and good luck with all your work. Thank you again for all you do,
Love Lauren

progress update: 22nd December 08

Just to wish you a Merry Christmas and let you know that Sparky is
still doing very well.
He continues to enjoy his regular walks up the New Forest (I’ve
attached a photo of him enjoying running through the frost there) and
he’s been on holiday to Devon again this year.  We recently de-fleaed
him, shortly after which he stuck his head in the compost bin and came
out stinking- of course we couldn’t bath him for 48 hours after
treatment and I don’t think he could work out why he wasn’t as popular
as he normally is!  I’ve also attached a photo of him admiring his
reflection – though I think really he is keeping an eye on the
neighbours!
Wishing you all the best for the New Year,
Lauren

” We adopted Sparky from DAWG two years ago.
He’s a big softie and loves having his tummy rubbed.
He’s a great adventurer, sadly with no sense of direction.
Fortunately he has loving owners who will happily spend hours scouring the New Forest trying to find him! “

Lauren.

Jack the furniture eater

progress update: 17/12/12

Hi Helen

I hope you are well and congratulations on the award!

Jack’s still doing well, he’s stopped his furniture eating habit completely now but still likes to move things about.

I’ve attached a photo from the summer when he was ‘helping’ the kids to undam the stream in the forest.

Happy Christmas

Sarah

progress update: 20th Apr 09

Hi Helen

I hope you are well. Just another update on Jack. He’s still doing

really well. My office has just moved and will be dog friendly so he

starts his probation period tomorrow as office dog!

He hasn’t eaten the sofa recently but he does steal dirty washing when

it’s been sorted into piles for the machine. You’ll find the occasion

sock where you know you didn’t put it i.e. on the deck or halfway

across the hall.

The cat is still in charge and will regularly eat Jack’s food whilst

Jack sits patiently behind, waiting his turn. He really is a big

softie.

I’ve attached a photo (on the infamous sofa) which I just love.

Take care

Sarah

progress update: 5th Aug

Hi Helen

Just to give you an update on Jack.

He’s doing really well.

Curled up asleep in his bed as I type.

His habit of eating the sofa re-emerged recently but I think we have it under control i.e. he’s not allowed in the family room unsupervised!

He’s recently discovered he can swim (rather than just paddling)

and likes to go to Iford Bridge golf course for walks with his Dad in the evening.

He and the cat get on well too, as long as Jack remembers his place – Ernie is in charge!

I work in the mornings now but when it’s nice weather, Jack has the run

of the garden and a fenced off area of the garage

(complete with 2 seater sofa – he hasn’t eaten that one though, he’s not daft).

We see Kate regularly at Friendly Dog Club and will be at the fun day with the demonstration team.

He even came 3rd at a fun dog show in New Milton recently!

Anyway, I hope the centre is doing well. Keep up the good work.

progress update on Jessie: 17/12/12

Hi Helen,

Was looking at the website the other day and thought it was about time I sent a picture of Jessie now she is all grown up!!!
We are really lucky to have her, she is such an important part of our family and such a wonderful dog, she loves the chaos of our busy lives with lots of children to play with!
Jessie makes other doggy friends very quickly on her walks and likes nothing better than a good chase around, nothing seems to wear her out!! Except perhaps the endless beaches in Cornwall on our yearly holiday!!
Hopefully sometime in the near future we will be looking for a friend for Jessie!! Have signed up for your email notifications, so will keep watching the website!!
Best Wishes

Rob, Becci, RJ, Ellie, Alfie, Esther & Jessie x

Sam and Jessie have now both found homes !!

progress update on Sammy: 13/8/11

Hi Helen,
Sammy has settled in really well.
He has filled out and shot up, quite big for a nine month old.
He is doing really well with obedience, although suffers with occasional selective hearing.

He’s retrieved one of the children’s old toy bowling balls from the bottom of the garden, makes a rattling noise when rolled, and it is now his favourite toy.
He loves his bubble machine and insists it goes on everyday, costing us a small fortune in batteries.

He has been away to model shows with us and loves the caravan, particularly our bed, which is now off limits as he has his own.

I have enclosed some photos for you.

Regards

Debbie

progress update on Sammy: 12/3/11

Hi Helen and all at DAWG dogs,

Here is an update on our much loved “Sammy” (Sam) who we adopted from DAWG dogs in February.
He is such a beautiful boy with bags of character, mad as a hatter and very much loved by every member of our family. We cant imagine life without him. He is very easy to train as he cottons on to commands very quickly. He is almost totally housebroken, I say almost because we still have the occasional excitable accident. His favourite game is tug of war, but we have to make sure that it is us that wins in the end and not him (important aspect of training).
He loves to fall asleep in the sun, so much so that we have had to open up the conservatory especially for him.
Sammy loves running round the garden in search for new rabbit holes. Since having him we have not seen any trace of next doors cat( digging up my flowers) or the local herons (eating our fish) well done Sammy.

A very big thank you to you Helen and your team, keep up the good work.

Debbie

progress update on Jessie: 17/2/11

Hi Helen,

We wanted to say a big thank-you!! Jessie came home with us yesterday & it feels like she’s always been here. She is such a sweet natured little girl. Full of beans, our children are so excited they can’t believe their luck. Jessie slept right through the night in her cage and is doing her business in the garden, (bar one or two expected mishaps.) Have attached a couple of pictures for you, exhausted after a hard days’ playing with her new chums!!!!

Thank you so much.

Rob & Becci

Hi Helen,

Sam (tan and white) and Jessie (tri colour ) have been with us a few days now and settling in well with Dawgdogs Jack and Izzie.
Sam and Jessie were dumped on the side of a road two days before Christmas in the freezing snow and ice .!!!
A kind gentleman driving down the road at the time and swerved and overturned his car to miss the puppies ,Thank goodness the man was unhurt and picked up the puppies and took them to the rescue .
Sam and Jessie are such cuties they are learning to do there business outside and they sleep all night.
Sam and Jessie have had there first trip to Pets at Home in branksome and they loved getting a treat for being so good.
They are very loving and are a joy to have.
(And a very big Thank you to that wonderful man who saved them )

best wishes

Kevin and nicky ,Jack and Izzie xxxx.

Gibson

Gibson has now found a home !!

Gibson is three years old and a Collie cross.
He came from a couple that loved him very much.
Gibson just could not take to the new baby and even though his people tried for ten months to get him to accept baby Gibson just didn’t feel happy.
He is fantastic with other dogs and loves people.
He would be better in a home with older children.
He has been to the pub with his foster Dad to meet the regulars who all loved him.

Tommy and Paddy (a.k.a Timmy)

REHOMED

progress update: 13/12/12

Tommy and Paddy are very well and a couple of pics are attached for you to see them.
They are amazing characters and are so different from each other that it’s hard to believe they are brothers!!
They are loving their walks around here, and we go out for about 2 hours each day.
Paddy has filled out a bit, and they both have become quite muscular with all the exercise.
They are used to traffic now, though it did take a while, and I don’t hesitate to take them through town now at any time of the day to go to walks on the other side of the square.
They love their kongs and I put a bit of cheese in the bottom and stuff a couple of markies in and they have this after their tea.
Everyone loves them in town as they are so easily recognisable and make a handsome pair.
I don’t find their blindness an issue at all, and in fact its amazing how they scamper around like sighted dogs on walks.
All in all a big success!

progress update: 19/8/12

Hi Helen,

A quick note to put your mind at rest.
Timmy and Tommy have settled in amazingly well, and after an aborted attempt to go for a quick walk
on Saturday, we set forth this morning at 8am and had a successful trot up Fleet Street and returned via the back tracks, a real success, and then another longer walk during the day.
They are eating well and are now both sound asleep, Tommy on his back and snoring.
They seem entirely happy, and I am very happy indeed with them.
Thank you so much for all your help.

I’ll send another report later in the week.

Best wishes,

Hazel

Tommy and Timmy have now found a home together !!

progress update: 27/7/12

Tommy and Timmy are now walked by the Woof Parade children who have been nominated Official Dawgdogs Walkers.
Tommy and Timmy love walking with this gang as they get lots of fuss!

progress update: 21/7/12
Well, what can I say about Tommy and Timmy except they are the perfect dogs.
Blind they may well be and I challenge anyone to know this when they meet them as they run around like sighted dogs.
Today a posse of enchanting children took over the walking of them on Saturday’s weekly Woof Parade which for those of you that don’t know what this is it is a weekly meeting of ex Dawgdogs and non Dawgdogs for a dog extravagance of ball throwing and walk around the heath.
The children loved taking it in turns to walk them as Tommy and Timmy sniffed their way full steam ahead stopping occasionally to roll in fox poo.
I hope that someone will come forward to offer them a home together as I will not part these brothers and anyone who adopts these two will be the
lucky ones but in the meantime I am happy for them to stay here as
long as it takes to find them a deserving home.

A short clip of Timmy and Tommy

A longer clip of Timmy and Tommy

We have discovered that both Tommy and Timmy are blind and can only see a little bit of light.
They get around so well that it was apparent at first.
They are both good with other dogs and enjoy their walks.
We know that a blind dog is not first on anyone’s list when looking for a dog but hope that someone with a generous heart will offer a home to one of them.

progress update: 5/7/12

Timmy and Tommy spent the night quietly and were clean and dry in their crates this morning,
very affectionate little dogs, just a bit bigger than terriers these little Beagles make super companions

Tommy and Timmy are two and a half year old Beagles.
We would love to find them a home together as Tommy is partially sighted but realise it
may not be possible to do this.
They are sweet natured boys and get on well with other dogs.
Pat their foster Mum will send in more updates once they have settled down.

“Thought you might like to see a picture of Ollie!
He’s been with us a year now and is absolutely gorgeous, as you can see!
I’d like to have a pound for every time someone has asked me what breed he is, and my daughter Chloe aged 4, very proudly tells everyone he’s a labradoodle-boxer cross!!!
We feel very privileged that he’s ours!!”

progress update: 20/11/12

Hi Helen.

I thought you would like an update on Max who we have had with us for over 5 years now.
As you can see from the photos he is a very happy confident chap who is at his happiest when surrounded by adoring people which is lucky as nearly every person we meet seems to be incapable of not making a fuss of him.
Apart from a few stiff joints he is still fit and healthy, if a bit slower than he was.
He has been a delight to have and even members of the family who were unsure of or didn’t like dogs are now sold.

Sorry it has taken so long to update you.
Mike Legg.
