Today he had his second jab, and now weighs 17lb.
Bear is coming on leaps and bounds with clicker training, he can sit, lie down, drop it and roll over is starting to get there.
He has recently discovered how to work his kong and treat balls and loves playing with other dogs.

April 2nd :

JEWEL GIVES BIRTH !

Jewel gave birth to seven healthy puppies on Tuesday, the first one arrived at 6.10 am and the last one was born at 9.48 am.
Midwives in attendance were Helen and Nicky with Kevin giving helpful advice in between sleeping (he does call himself the perfect husband ) !!!! .
We settled down to two giant size bars of chocolate sustenance in the form of two bars of Aero, copious amounts of tea and junk nighttime TV whilst Jewel paced back and forth unable to settle.
After six hours of Jewel evicting us from one comfortable seat or other she gave birth to her first puppy a girl followed over the next few hours by four more girls and two boys.
All fingers and toes in the right place and mother and babies are doing well.
Nicky and Helen not so well from lack of sleep especially Nicky who had slept downstairs with Jewel for several nights previously.
By the time all the puppies had been born Nicky and Helen were laughing in a crazy fashion at anything anyone said like a couple of madmen.
Helen would like to thank Keith her fantastic boss who let her stay with Jewel until we were sure all the puppies had arrived when she should have been at work at 8.00 that morning and who also amazingly told her to go and get an hours sleep in the evening whilst on duty.
Helen would also like to thank Lorraine who she was supposed to take over from on Tuesday morning, Lorraine stayed on late to cover her. thank you to Jane McInnes who was on hand at all times to give advice and help to Nicky when Helen wasn’t available and also to Philippa our vet who reassured Nicky over the phone.

Biggest thanks go to Nicky, Kevin and their family who are absolute stalwarts in fostering Jewel and her family and all the other dogs they foster.
Nicky and Kevin were supposed to be replacing their floor in April but put it off until they both Jewel and her puppies have homes.

Jewel has a home who are eagerly awaiting the time they can adopt her but we would like to have homes ready for the puppies when they are eight weeks old and ready to leave Mum.
If anyone thinks that they can give a good home to one of them then please phone the rescue.

Rusty

progress update: 11/6/10

Rusty has gone to her new home today !

Rusty is a short legged JRT.

She arrived from Ireland last week having gone into doggy foster care after the death of her elderly owner.
She is about 3 years old and still very nervous but gaining in confidence every day.

She is very playful and will spend ages playing with a ball on her own
but she also loves walks and can run incredibly fast despite her little legs.
She is good at night and sleeps in her basket downstairs.

She is very clean and eats well.  She tolerates her foster brother, but  would probably prefer to be an only dog and not have children to compete with for attention!

RUSTY HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED

Sparky + Sophie

have now found a home !

Sparky and Sophie are 6 year old Cavalier crosses.

Originally homed by us 5 years ago but the lady who took them on is now seriously ill and unable to cope.
Sparky doesn’t see too well in the day but seems to see see quite well at night we have been told by his previous lady.

We would like to find them a home together as Sparky follows Sophie’s lead and they have been together since birth.

They get on very well with other dogs and are extremely friendly and nice tempered.

We don’t know what they are like with children but think that they will be fine with older children.

Scruff (a.k.a Little Dog)

Scruff has been rehomed

Hi thought you might like to see photo of little dog ie Scruff after his adventure down a fox/badger hole.
After an hour and half stood in pouring rain with whistle and at least 10 other people looking for him he came back.
A little sorry for himself but I am sure it wont deter him.x

Duchess + Bruno

Bruno + Duchess

have now found homes

Hi we are Duchess and Bruno and we are looking for a new home/s.
Duchess is a 10 month old collie mix bitch she is very lively gets on with children and other dogs but not cats. She is well trained knowing the usual commands and is good off the lead. She is bouncy at the moment but am sure she will grow out of it.
She has not as yet had her first season therefore has not been spayed. All in all a very loving and loyal dog and will make someone happy.
Bruno is a 4 year old Rhodisian ridgeback cross he is on a special diet at the moment due to being slightly overweight but is having alot of excercise that has seen a dramatic difference.
He is very laid back and easy going, good off the lead and is very well trained. Poor Bruno does suffer from sensitive skin from time to time which is being treated and is clearing up well. Bruno is such a lovely dog there is no cause for concern in any area due to his sweet nature.
I am very upset to let go these two best friends as I am suffering personal issues and cannot look after then and give them the attention that is required.
I am hoping that either together or separate they will find loving homes.
Please contact Helen if you think you can help these adorable dogs.
Thank you

Henry

Henry is now happily rehomed!

progress update: 21st May 10

Hi Helen

I can not believe we have had him only for just over 2mths it seems like he has always been living with us. Henry makes us smile everyday.
Henry has settled really well after a few weeks of adjusting.
He did suffer a bit from an upset stomach but with advice from our vets and putting him on
the right food all is now well and he has gained 3k (now weighs 23K) plus his
coat is looking good no dry skin, Henry loves to be groomed!

Henry enjoys his walks and loves to play in the park with his ball.
At the weekends he gets treated by the bakers with a sausage plus treats from the
newsagents.
Everyone in town thinks he is adorable, mind you he is always on his good behavior when we are out.
We are carrying on Jeffrey’s good work and continuing to train i.e. sit at kerbs, stay etc.
Now sits with very little commands.
He has also had trips to the beach and the moors.
All new experiences for him. Was a little unsure to begin with but is getting to
like the sea and the Moors a lot more now.
Henry tends to tiptoe if he is not sure of the terrain he is walking on.

We still have one or two issue to overcome such as whining when he travels
in the car and tends to bark at visitors to the house although he has gained
confidence in myself and Rose he is still wary of other people, but we are
working on this and he is getting better, it will just take a little more
time.

I think if Henry could write this he would say I really like my new home and
I have become much more confident and relaxed although I still get anxious
about some things.

Will update again soon
Best wishes
Roy.

progress update: 25th Jan 10

Henry has now gone to live in Devon!

Henry has been with Jeff and his dogs for a few weeks, during which time he has learnt his dog manners.
He didn’t really know anything when he arrived. Henry now knows he must sit and wait for his dinner and responds to commands.
He also behaves well on the lead. He sometimes stands and walks on his hind legs but he hasn’t been taught that, that’s his own little trick!
Henry is more comfortable around men at the moment, possibly because the lady he lived with before was struggling to cope with the whole adolescent litter.
He was hesitant when we arrived to take his pictures but curious enough to come and give us a sniff.
He regularly visits the pub (as part of his social training of course!) and can hear a crisp packet opening at 20 paces!
He such a nice looking boy, he gets lots of attention and titbits from his new people friends in the local!
He is clearly very fond of Jeff and seems like he would be a very loyal dog.

My name is Henry, I am 11 months old and until yesterday I lived with my  brothers and sisters at the house where I was born.

There were eight of us plus Mum all together and as we grew into Labrador size dogs and were allowed to do exactly what we wanted we became too much for the lady.

Most people would have realised this and found us homes earlier but we have now ended up in rescue and they are left to sort out the problem of finding places for us.

Helen stated last night that I am a good old fashioned Heinz 57,

for those of you that haven’t heard the expression it means a general mix up of all sorts of dogs.

I am tan coloured ,the size of a Labrador as earlier said and get on well with other dogs.

I am a little nervous of new people because we didn’t meet many in our originally home but I am getting over this quickly.

I do need a home with another dog as I am used to company and I love all food that comes my way,

maybe there is a bit of a wriggly Labrador in me !!

Lady

Lady has now been rehomed !!

I was abandoned a week ago, I sat for a long time waiting for them to come back and was eventually picked up and brought to the rescue.
I am 10 years old, it was very cold out and a bit harsh to leave me outside. My heritage is Collie and I am quiet and sensible. I would love a home where I could snuggle up in the evenings in front of a fire after a nice walk. Helen says I would be perfect for a retired person or a quiet family. Not much fazes me apart from when the food is served and then I get quite excited.
