Hi Helen just a quick progress report for the lovely Maxine,
this lovely girl has been here a week now and her behaviour is still fantastic, shes so good in the house, and anywhere else you care to take her, shes very sociable with other dogs and people, shes wonderful with my children and all of their friends, shes good as gold at night in her crate we don’t hear a peep out of her.
Maxine enjoys spending most of her time with me in the day, she likes to help out with what ever you are doing, she is quite an energetic and busy little dog, but saying
that she is also very very affectionate and really enjoys being cuddled and loves to be on your lap in the evenings, Maxine is happy to go in her crate during the day if I have
to go out so she really is a fantastic dog all round, she has great recall off lead, and if I did’nt have 3 dogs already she would be staying with me.
Regards
Niki

Hi Helen, just a quick update on the lovely Maxine now she has been here a little while,
this little girl has settled herself in here extremely well, she has been clean and dry in the house and has been happy to go in her crate during the day and through the night with no problems at all,
she is very respectful of my other dogs, and very very affectionate with my
children,
so far she has been a little bit shy regarding playing with toys but I’m sure this will come in time.
Maxine travelled very well in the car for our walk by the river this morning where she had a great she time meeting lots of other dogs and people she was happy to say hello to dogs
of all different shapes and sizes, without hesitation which is great,
at this very moment Maxine is curled up on my daughter’s lap,
she really does enjoy being fussed and we are really enjoying having her here.
regards
Niki
Maxine does not like cats

Hi Helen,
Bella is a 5 month old mix Girl.
Very playful full of energy and she knows how to sit.
She loves playing with other dogs and is good on the lead. She likes her walks.
She is a little under weight but wont take long to put on. She’s wormed and micro chipped.
She has a scar on the left side of her back.
She will be easy to teach and is willing to please, a fun and lovely girl. Someone will be very lucky to have Bella.
Thanks
Tracy

Our lost dog Oscar has been reported to have been picked up on the hard shoulder of the M11 motorway heading southbound between junctions 8-7 (Stanstead-Harlow) on 10th January 2011 at approximately 11am.
It has been alleged that two ladies in a small hatchback car picked him up as he was running along the side of the motorway.
The police were called and two police/traffic officers attended the incident.
We have been in contact with the police and the highways agency but neither can find any record of the incident and so we have no idea what happened to Oscar after this and we therefore need your help.
We believe Oscar is not in our area and could have been taken to anywhere in the country! Was he taken to you?
Oscar is a male (complete) sandy and black Border Terrier cross and is 20 months old, he went missing on 8th January 2011 from our back garden in Threshers Bush, Harlow, Essex, CM17 0NS.
He had a collar and tag on when he went missing but is not micro chipped.
Oscar has been with us since birth and was the only puppy in his litter to survive when his brothers and sister were stillborn, he was our little miracle and is very special to us.
We are devastated that he has gone missing and are desperate to find him and return him to his much loved family home.
I have attached a poster with a photo of Oscar, we would really appreciate it if you would print and display this poster for us.
Kind Regards,
Lucy Lawrence

Hi Helen, Just a little note to say that Purdy is having a whale of a time and adapting well to our household.
She has had loads of walks so far and been run ragged with the ball (I think she will lose weight quickly because all the neighbouring children like throwing ball for her also).
On the whole I think she has settled in quite well, she has made a den in one of the flower beds and likes to sit in my chair when we are not looking (cheeky dog : ) ).
Thanks for allowing us the opportunity of rehoming Purdy we will look after her and ensure that she has a good life.
Will send pictures and updates periodically.
Thanks Jason and family

Purdy will be going to her new home tomorrow !!
progress update: 9/3/11
Hi Helen,
A quick update on Purdy.
She’s relaxed a bit more into family life now; getting better on the lead and not nearly so excitable.
She’s devoted to my 3 year old daughter, follows her everywhere! I really hope she finds a lovely home, I think she’d like somewhere relaxed and calm as she is a real sleeper!
She’s been all over the place for different walks with us, nothing seems to faze her, and she’s lovely around other dogs – even the ones that aren’t so nice to her.
Thanks Helen
Kind regards
Jo.
Hi Helen,
This is Purdy. Between 3 and 4 years old. She’s a lovely girl on the small side for a Border collie.
I’ve had her with me for 3 days and she’s been great.
She’s perfect off the lead (all she wants is to play ball), fine with other dogs and great with kids.
She is pretty rubbish on a lead though! (You can’t have everything!)
As I said she is a collie and can be a bit bouncy and lickey for the first few minutes when you come home for instance, but these are small ‘problems’ that can be sorted fairly easily.
She was living with an older lady, who fell on the ice and badly broke her arm before Christmas.
The lady felt she could no longer manage the dog, she can’t drive yet as the arm is not healing properly and she is due yet another operation.
Purdy hasn’t been properly exercised since before Christmas, so she is a bit tubby!
Kind regards
Jo.
Rudy arrived on Wednesday, he is a 10 months old Springer Spaniel good with horses, dogs, children and possibly cats.
The family he came from had a lot of animals but not sure if they had cats.
Due to his lady being in intensive care very ill we were asked to take him on and find a new home for him. He is a typical springer Spaniel active and friendly will need more training on his recall and lead walking.

We have walked Jess a total of 3 times now.
Once on a short lead (as this was her first time out with me) and twice on the long lead to give her a bit more freedom.
She has proved to be very obedient – obviously she pulls as this is a normal process when the dogs first get to experience new things!
Upon whistling for Jackson and Spike, she will turn round and stop in her tracks –
Also, I’m not too sure why, but when I shout for Spike she comes to me and looks expectantly.
This may well be to do with the tone of my voice though.
She also tends to seek approval.
If you’re standing still, she will jump up and rest her front paws over your forearm like shes trying to hug you! If you stroke her, she tends to get down and carry on walking.
I have started using ‘heel’ with her – she does respond and pulls less, however, this will take time.
Overall, she is a wonderful dog with a very affectionate character who won’t take long to rehome –
If I could have her, she would’ve come with me 2 weeks ago!
Jessie fishing in my pond,
she spent hours doing this today!

Hi, this is me after a looooong walk in Ringwood forest with Jules, Jen ( who took us all out) and Mutley and crew.
I had a fabulous time and came back slightly off white in colour.
I have settled in here as you can see and am loving all the new people and dogs that I meet.
Everyone who comes to the house to see Helen loves me and when she had people here last week doing things with electric stringy things and fences and stuff I was besides myself they thought I was just lovely.
Melissa came today and said if she didn’t already have three dogs she would of taken me home.
Rosie my companion went to a new home today hope I will be off to one soon.
Love Jessie xx

Jess is gorgeous she s 6 months old intact female collie, very good recall once she knows you, she stays around outside all day and is as good as gold but needs more input she s ready to be someones dog she loves attention and pleasing people, very good with other dogs but is quite dominant so she wont be pushed down by other dogs, she does this quite politely however and is a gentle sweetie, Duke and her get on great. She s good with our cat but he doesnt run, she might chase a cat if it ran and is house trained, but is a bit of a climber and will be found on the kitchen table etc if left unsupervised!! Doesnt get car sick. Happy to travel.
Toni
about 6 year old the most kind genuine friendly dog, (intact male) beautiful to look at a proper fluffy old style border collie with tons of fur broad head and body. was emaciated when he came in but improving all the time and is very good with all other dogs but sadly some males take umbridge to him and will try to attack him, he doesnt retaliate and is such a gentle soul you can see why he was depressed at the kennels he came from he knew if the wrong male dog got loose he d be ‘getting it’, he has the scars to prove he s been through the wars. Also is cow hocked. Looks like he may have had it broken at hock on left back leg and probably wasnt set, as its a knarled joint and leg sticks out a bit but causes him no trouble at all, running and playing are no bother to him. His recall isnt good and I havent had him long enough to do anything about it but he s brill on the lead. Only a hard case couldnt fall for this Prince of dogs, what a sweetie. Doesnt get car sick, happy to travel.

Rose has now found a home!!
progress update: 22/5/11
Hi Helen
I thought I would let you know that Cookie is really doing well now.
We have seen a huge improvement over the last two weeks, or at least they are huge to us!
She now comes into our front room without being brought in on the lead.
She gets on better with Barry but that is because he is there all the time with her. She still doesn’t know what to make of me but at least she doesn’t cower any more when she sees me!
She follows the cat around and always says hello to him (by rubbing noses) when he deigns to come in.
And when we go for a walk and she sees other people she is so much better, so much so that the people who have seen her from the beginning have remarked how well she is doing and how much happier she looks.
She plays with her toys when she doesn’t think we are looking but when we try to play with her she isn’t sure what we are doing!
She is now house trained and knows what going for a walk means!
I think we may be winning.
Take care
Jackie (Darke)

Hi
Cookie (Rose) is settling really well now.
She is still nervous but slowly but surely she is getting used to us and not running to hide every time we go near her.
She now goes for walks down on the heath and enjoys sniffing around but doesn’t yet realise the real purpose of these walks as she comes back and goes in the garden!
We had to take her to the vets the other day as she was showing signs of nesting but the vet said that it was a phantom pregnancy so that’s now sorted out.
She is getting used to her new name so hopefully we might be able to work on her recall soon, we just don’t want to rush her!

Hi
Thank you so much for letting us have Rose.
She is still very scared at the moment and will only come out of her crate when she wants to use the newspaper but only if we are not in the same room.
She hasn’t let us know yet when she wants to go out and hates the lead but very early days.
We had a quiet night and our cat is getting used to her by just walking past her crate – I guess when Rose moves out of the crate and is more inquisitive we will have to watch them together.
I thought I would send a photo of her for your records and will send an update when she ventures out and is happier!
Thank you again
Jackie
