Bess

progress update: 6th Feb 10

Helen hi

I am sorry we haven’t been in touch for ages.
I thought you might like an update on Bess.
She has settled in very well and is a lovely part of the family now.
It has been lovely watching her character come out over the past 8 months.
She has a lot of Marley in her and gets into a lot of mischief at times!
She is a very clever dog and full of energy and affection.
She gets on very well with other dogs and has made lots of local ‘friends’.
She loves long walks, playing with other dogs and chasing the ball, as well as getting wet, muddy and eating.
Please let us know when you next have a show and we will finally get down to visit with Bess.
I have attached a few photos of Bess over the last few months, including one of her watching her favourite film, Marley!!

progress update: 13th May 09

Bess is settling in nicely and is lovely.
She is learning to sit before crossing the road and before food and is beginning to walk well on the lead.
She loves chasing a ball and enjoys a good chew of anything that comes to hand –
including us at times but she is beginning to understand we don’t want to be chewed!
She had a good check up at the Vets last week who confirmed what we thought, that she
is probably a retriever/collie cross.
She has loads of energy and today had her first run around off the lead with a friend’s dog.
She had such fun and is getting over her initial fear of bigger dogs, and
was brilliant at returning when she was called.

We will keep you up to date as she progresses and send more pictures.
I have attached a photo of her in some local woods after attacking a
muddy puddle!

Regards

Alison

Bess has now found a new home !!

progress update:

Bess is due into the Rescue on Apr 18th

Bess is about 5/6 months old, gentle as a lamb & good with cats.

Scooby

Scooby has now found a home !!!

progress update from Claire:

Scooby seems like a timid little thing at the moment.
He’s quite underweight and boney but he eats well and has such an appetite that I don’t think it will be long before he puts some weight on.
He needed a bath when he arrived but there was no way he was going to let me dry him with a towel afterwards. I think that tested the last of his patience, so I let him be with a bed full of towels to get him dry.
He shakes a little bit when he’s nervous and sometimes shows his teeth or grumbles. He was very wary of me yesterday but I could tell he was desperate for a cuddle. He briefly rested his head on my leg then scuttled off to his bed.
He’s decided I’m not so bad this morning and let me give him a good stroke after he’d wiped his breakfasty face in my trousers.
He’s all silky now he’s clean. That must feel better! He certainly smells nicer.
He nudges my hand for more stroking when I stop. I think he’s going to be quite a cuddly boy when he’s ready. Like Harry he’s probably going to sleep alot over the next few days while he builds up his self esteem & confidence around us and sleeps off his stress. He’s snoozing now!
I think his face looks a bit like a Chihuahua but don’t worry I’m not going to carry him around in my handbag!

Harry

progress update: 10th Jan 10

Harry has now found a home !!!

Harry seems quite a laid back chap.

He’s only been here since yesterday evening but I’ve already taken quite a shine to him.

He tolerated a bath after I realised he must have rolled in something unpleasant before Helen picked him up.

I was not his favourite person after that but we are friends again this morning (probably because I fed him!).

He is quite content to stay in his warm bed in the crate and more than happy to go in there, needing no more encouragement than for the door to be open.

He is spending a lot of time in his bed but who can blame him when it’s frosty out.

I have tried to get him to play with some toys but he isn’t fussed.

It may take a few days for his personality to come out.

He is a little on the thin side which explains his current appetite for more food.

He snatches treats at the moment so we will have to work on that.

He is clean but he doesn’t like hanging about outside in the cold once he has had his necessary visit.

Don’t you think he’s handsome?

What a lovely face he has!

Isabelle ( a.k.a Izzy )

progress update: 13th Feb 10

Izzy has now been rehomed!!

progress update: 13th Feb 09

Bob and Izzy

Bob and Izzy

Isabelle is about 2 years old and a cross breed.
She originally came from a kennels in Birmingham, where there
were 12 dogs who were due to be put to sleep, due to overcrowding.
Isabelle was one of them. Izzy isn’t very good with livestock.

She does have issues due to her horrific past,
she was abused and she was found by a dog warden in a canal where the banks were way too high for her to get out of, her previous owner had tried to drown her. Charming.
She suffers from separation anxiety. She doesn’t chew anything up unless it is foodstuffs.
So it’s a good idea to keep food locked away from her!
She has, however worked out how to open doors when she’s left, but with time and commitment,
we think she could get over this.
We think crate training her may be a good idea, then she could be left safely.
Obviously she can’t open a front door, but can open other doors in the house.

She’s excellent with children, good with cats (as long as they are known
to her) other cats she will want to chase.
She’s good with other dogs too. She is extremely loving, gentle, kind and affectionate and is one
of those dogs that snuggles right in close for a hug.
She just needs someone to give her the time she needs.
She does have some problems, as I’ve explained, but she also has so many lovely aspects to her nature.
She is very quiet in the home, and isn’t one of these barky dogs.
She’ll only bark when the doorbell goes for instance, and then she’s soon quiet again.
She is also fully housetrained, and she is very good with other dogs.
It’s just the food stealing and livestock that she’s not good with!

Tegan

Tegan has now found a home !!!

progress update: 13th Dec 09

Tegan is 3 years old, loves people and dogs not cats.

Very well behaved and loves nothing more than to have a cuddle and a walk.

She has been mistreated by a man but is not fearful of them.

She is a quiet dog but one with lots of energy for a game or a walk.
